2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

Honest question, has a single poll place observer ever actually observed something awry? I mean real stuff, not bamboo ballots.

Are talking about strictly ballot stuff, or also the people wearing campaign merch, being told they need to remove said merch before they’re allowed to vote, and then said person becoming violent with the poll workers? I’ve seen a number videos for of the latter many this year.

That was the running schtick at my house when I was growing up. Pretty much every election day, one of us kids would wait until supper time to ask my mom if she voted. She responded the same way in every election that I ever remember, "Oh, I had to. I had to go and cancel out your dad's vote."

Sounds like something my grandparents would have said :D

I have certainly never heard of it. I mean, you're talking about a situation where partisan yokels notice errors in procedure that escape the attention of the actual poll workers, who are well trained and have in most cases been conducting elections for many, many years.

It would be like expecting amateurs off the street to show up once every four years and identify errors in university-level lectures on condensed matter physics.

The right wing reaction to that ad is the best example of who Republicans are and it's killing them.

Exactly.

At this point, I've accepted who they are. I've got ZERO issues with them being squeezed out of social/family circles. If they feel that everyone else is wrong and can't figure out the social situation, they deserve every bit of mental anguish they get.

Great to see "Mr. Free Speech" Elon has such great freedom on X. Had a Tweet deleted with no warning because I ranted to the Illinois GOP for being a bunch of liars.

Also had a Facebook post "Zucked" and shadowbanned because I posted an article about how Trump is two Billion in the hole and climbing, but *I* can be declared a security risk and denied a security clearance for airfield access for work if I'm too much in debt.

That is her right...and I support it but I hope she understands any chance she had to help mold foreign policy to help her people just died.

I’d like to think she’s waited until now because numbers show Harris takes MI regardless, and this appeases her most ardent supporters in the district.

But, probably not. Still, like you said, she’s not breaking the law and I’m not surprised someone in her position would have such a stance.

Tlaib has decided to no endorse Harris.

What a stupid own goal.
Jared Golden hasn’t endorsed her also. Why, because he would never get re-elected in Maines 2nd district if he did. He may not win anyway as much money as been spent on his trump endorsed opponent. His opponent is a former nascar driver who has name recognition in the north woods where he is from. Rubber stamp for the repubs if elected.

The strange thing about that is I can't figure out how any of them managed to marry.

Their hatred of women is just so palpable in so many of them.

Many men hide it well until after the vows are said, and there are plenty of women willing to go along to get along. This is why you see lots of finance and tech bros calling themselves "more of a libertarian" ever since Bush Jr. It's a code switch.

In addition to what Fade posted, I also think people change a lot as they age. And not from just life, but their bodies. As we all change, there is a natural hormone change that puts rage big time on the agenda- especially if they have been brought up where angry is ok. Angry turns into rage and ranting, so before you know it, that odd family member is projecting a lot of their failings on everyone else in a very dangerous way. On another board, I've seen more than one man tell of his failing marriage, and can't really understand why they are so angry and are so bad to people- and this wasn't the way it was.

Not that it's ok at all. But all of the ads for hormone replacement ads for both men and women is based in reality- just not accurately.

But that's why it's so easy for dumpy to connect with angry white guys, because they are angry for bad reasons.

There is a larger percentage of woman than you think who subscribe to the "women are less than men" theory for various reasons. Some were gaslit by religion, some were abused either physically or emotionally to the point of subservience and others just plain hate other women. There are hundreds of thousands of Phyllis Schlaflys out there...

Well we will know that pretty quickly if Harris wins. Biden had Bernie and Warren pick who they wanted in charge of economic regulatory agencies (Lina Khan especially) because they were helpful in getting him elected. If we hear about AOC and Omar having voices in Harris' transition team and Tlaib is nowhere to be found...then we will know it likely wasn't the scenario you mentioned since she likely would have cleared it with Harris.

(judging by how upset Harris has been getting at the protestors that try and shout her down methinks Harris and Tlaib are not on the same page here)
