Agree with both of these. Assuming we get through 2024, I'm really hoping that means the beginning of the transition to a post-fascism era. If feels like we've backed the white racists into a corner and they're lashing out as they realize they don't get to control everything anymore.
For the sci-fi nerds, it's somewhat analogous to a jump in Kardashev type. If a society survives the last several decades of their current type, they might make thr transition. But it is thought to be tumultuous.
Anyways, that's kind of what it seems like right now. We're trying to move past* gender identity and racial politics, but in doing so you basically light a fuse for those that don't want to make that jump.

I think what we are seeing is an inflection point with respect to America's founding principles of equality before the law. Conservative Christian whites supported universal civil rights when they were the overwhelming majority and they apportioned out tolerance as a gift. Noblesse oblige.
But now America has become so diverse that equality is beginning to mean what is says -- there is no longer one "normal" type of Americans and a bunch of deviations.
They always assumed they would be the rulers and they would graciously allow the rest of us to breath. But now they are realizing truly democratic principles mean they won't be in control anymore. They will just be another group in a varied cluster -- there will be nothing special about them. And they can't stand it.
This is the first time America has to actually live up to its principles, and the conservative deadweight is not up to it. They want an ethnostate where white Christianity is the legally declared ruling class, like Hindus in India, Muslims in Pakistan, or Jews in Israel.
But now America has become so diverse that equality is beginning to mean what is says -- there is no longer one "normal" type of Americans and a bunch of deviations.
They always assumed they would be the rulers and they would graciously allow the rest of us to breath. But now they are realizing truly democratic principles mean they won't be in control anymore. They will just be another group in a varied cluster -- there will be nothing special about them. And they can't stand it.

I actually said something similar last night when discussing this. Much like 2020 was important to show we havent fully descended into madness yet and the Midterms and Special Elections are showing us we are clawing back some sanity, 2024 is going to be the true flashpoint. The reason being there is no way Trump is alive in 2028 (or if he is he won't be able to function enough to hold rallies that will work) and the influence of his crap wing of the party dies with him. That won't force any real change in how the GOP runs themselves (that will take at least a decade if it ever happens) but his power comes from getting people who hate politicians and the government to vote and believe everything he says even when he changes his thought mid-sentence. Most of the crackpots Jordan Klepper talks to at rallies have zero interest in the US Government, in fact they hate it. They are Ruby Ridge nutjobs who think Alex Jones doesn't go far enough and are so stupid any of us could start a web site tomorrow and fool them into thinking they themselves are Lizard People. Even MTG won't be able to hold onto them. They will go back to never voting (or writing in nutjobs) and things will stop being as close as they are now.
The thing I have to remind myself sometimes is that a year from now all of this whining from people is going to be irrelevant. When Trump is the nominee every Jew or Palestinian or Crackpot Leftist or Corrupt Centrist is going to realize the threat and say "better to deal with Biden and his issues than Trump and his destructive force". And once again women will be our saving grace.

Reasonable people used to talk seriously about third parties. Now, nobody does. That has been the primary effect of the Nazification of the American Right.
The media tries to keep hawking their Dems in Disarray narrative, either because it is all they have, or because they have been ordered to push elections to the Right because their owners are personally safe and only care about keeping and adding to what they have stolen from the public treasury since 1981. And, in a country with 160 million voters, you can always between 10 and 10,000 who loudly proclaim every form of idiocy. But something has changed. It used to be entirely rational to vote Green or Socialist to put the fear of god into the Dems and drive them from their Center-Right Lazy-Boy. It no longer is, when faced with an existential threat to democracy.
Reagan and Bush Senior destroyed the middle class but they kept democracy. Dubya weakened our democratic institutions and pushed vote suppression and donor class bribery, but you still had to win an election under him. Dump has no bottom -- and everyone knows that. It is after all one of his biggest selling points with conservatives that he'll use all means, including violence, to get what he wants. That's what they have always fantasized about, ever since Nixon. They have never been a free people, just willing slaves who simp for a particular type of tyrant.
So we won't be bleeding votes. Sorry NYT and CNN. Sorry billionaires.

I'm not worried about splitting Biden supporters, I want to not give Dump haters anywhere to go but Biden. If they hate Dump they have at least the sense to recognize fascism, and at that point anything including voting for a Dem is preferable. On the other hand, if they are still with Dump they are in the cult and nothing can jar them out. Nor can anything that happens in court, since it will be seen as "lawfare."
