Speaking of hobbies….per rolling stone:

“Speaker of the House Mike Johnson admitted that he and his son monitored each other’s porn intake in a resurfaced clip from 2022”

goddamn why are republicans so ****ing sick

Why are Gawd-humpers intaking porn in the first place?

Sinners.

I think many of her constituents love that she's reciting a line used in reference to obliterating all the Jews.

The problem with that interpretation is the Israelis use the same slogan. So, does that mean "between the Sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty” is a genocidal call for obliterating all Palestinians?

Conservatives think "pro choice" means murdering little babies. You can't brand a slogan with the language of its most vituperative opponents and then claim that makes people who use that slogan monsters. That's some sort of logical error I've forgotten the Latin for.

I still say this is simple: just drown everyone from Hamas, Hezbollah, and Likud, and let the sane people live together. That's a from the river to the sea we can all get behind.

And she has a lot of Jewish constituents.

for some reason it seems to be hard for some people to put out a statement that basically says terrorism is evil and civilians shouldn’t be killed. But I guess there’s no pleasing hardliners who think any support of Israel or Palestine is evil and the other side must not exist

I’m sincerely not trying to start an argument, but I genuinely don’t know what else we expect Rashida Tlaib to do? She’s mad as hell. She’s Palestinian with family living in Israel, for goodness sake. I think it’s disgusting her state party is turning on her for speaking so fervently about her beliefs on what’s happening to her people, and potentially her family. Let her speak her piece. Bernie Sanders knocked it out of the park on CNN with Dana Bash. She was angling to get him to say something negative about Tlaib or her words, and he wasn’t having it. Love that man.

Apparently if you say Palestinians are human beings you're anti-Semitic.

The Levant is a continuous LARP of Let this Be Your Last Battlesfield.

My side is never terrorist, it's forced by the other side.

Weren't all of these elected by popular vote. I thought you were a big supporter of the notion that not only should political leaders you despise be eliminated, but also the citizens who voted for them?

TBH, Hamas and Hezbollah weren't elected to anything, except way back in the dim recesses of history -- they're utterly undemocratic. Likud at least has to stand for election. They're subverting democracy by jiggering their court system -- the usual authoritarian shenanigans of the Right we're seeing in Poland, Hungary, Turkey, and here as well.

Likud keeps winning because when you traumatize people most of them turn into cowardly animals. This is the secret of rightwing political movements throughout the world, and where they get their electoral heft from. Indeed, it's tempting to imagine the Rightwing mouthbreathers in antagonistic countries work together to keep one another in power. So, yes, while the politicians should be drowned you are right the voters themselves should just get treatment. Someday there may be a cure. cf. MAGAts.

But as you say, one of the million differences between us and the Right is we won't stoop to genocide. The Times regrets the error.

Hamas was years ago, Hezbollah was never elected and Likud had to form a coalition government because, while they had the largest plurality, they weren't remotely close to a majority.

All of these are minority parties. All of them. And frankly, this is one of the major problems with multi-party systems.

And as usual, you mis-state or mis-attribute someone's statement, thinking you've got a "gotcha" moment.

The impartial, centrist position, ladies and gentlemen.

I'm not sure it makes a difference. Look at the Republican caucus -- their worst, most extreme, most vicious, most militant, most anti-democratic wing controls them. At least in a multiparty system "normal" Republicans (stupid or cynical, but not crazy) would have the ability to form a coalition with other moderates.

I just don't know if multiparty would be better, here. I don't know enough about it. I feel like if we had it I'd rather there be 40 parties with 2.5% than 4 with 25%.

I don't necessarily disagree, just pointing out that minority rule - even extreme - is certainly a possibility in a multi-party system.

Virginia 2024: the derp comes home to roost.

The political ads are very interesting this year. Democrats put their party affiliation in their ad, Republicans hide it. Democrats are going full bore on choice and Dump, Republicans are hiding from both. I've noticed that many Republican ads have a notably blue color scheme.

The derp knows they are in trouble. They're just keeping their head down and hoping their orcs come through. The two themes I have seen on VA GOP ads are hilarious "defund the police" screeds and crime ads where you protect your precious, white, blonde daughter from the scary black man. It's not a dog whistle, it's the full orchestra. And that's up here in NoVa; downstate its gotta be full frontal Klan.
