Well, I am glad to know they survived the Hamas attack. I am glad they aren’t stuck in Gaza, where the carpet bombing is continuing to take place. It surprises me that you’d take the stance you are on what Tlaib is saying, given what you just said.
The only thing she’s said that I can interpret as being anti-Semitic is her “River to the sea” comment, and since she’s been so forceful, blunt, and openly honest about everything else, including accusing her party leader, the leader of the free world, of genocide, I doubt she’d lie about just that one thing. If she said something else anti-Semitic, I have yet to see it. I know she’s said more than once she wants peace and weeps for not only Palestinian deaths, but Israeli ones as well.

What is it we always tell people when they try and defend use of the Confederate Flag when they try and tell us that they aren't racist and that it has different meanings?

Look do I think Tlaib is Antisemitic...no I do not. Likely she is telling the truth and she was just saying that because she wants peace. Maybe she and the people she hangs with have re-appropriated that saying into something less vile and evil. But that is not what that phrase means to the majority of the Palestinians or the Muslim world and she knows that. It is not about equality and peace as long as two states exist in what they believe is Palestine. It has been the rallying cry since almost the beginning...Palestine from The Jordan to the Red Sea. (river to the sea) Hell Pro-Palestinian groups actually add the "no two states just one" along with it many times even today.

So you can't have it both ways. We chastise people all the time for saying things they might mean one way that another group has deemed unacceptable because it is a slight against them. Yet it seems you want myself and other Jews to just pretend that 70+ years of violence whilst chanting that phrase disappeared because a few mean it another way? That isn't how it works and to expect it as such would be disingenuous especially when others right now are saying the same thing because they want bloodshed.

And again, you seem upset but the only criticism I had of her was going after Biden. I forgave everything else precisely because in a situation like hers it is hard to see the forest from the trees and even made an excuse why she would go after Biden even though it is counterproductive in every way. Me saying she made a mistake is on tactics, I am not telling her how she should feel. I understand her feelings I just think she is letting her feelings cloud her judgement and that is a human thing to let happen. (every Jew I know is doing it and I point it out to them as well) I am going over the top to show empathy for her. I dont want her attacked or reprimanded, I dont want her primaried! (my original post was a rhetorical question not a call to action) Omar trafficked in the same stuff because of ignorance but I still voted for her twice and will every time she is up for election. I don't think her or Tlaib are evil people who hate Jews or Israelis or anyone else. That doesn't put them above criticism though just because I agree with them on most things.

And the thing is, I also get why you don't agree with me. I am not asking you to. These things will affect me in a different way than they will affect you or your coworkers that are Palestinian. When Antisemitism and Islamophobia are skyrocketing over a conflict none of us want it is important we don't let old hatreds re-bubble to the surface out of pain and fear. That is why I said what I said about Tlaib. Because she might not mean it that way, but plenty of the people who heard her say it do. And just like we said hate groups took the words Trump said and used it as a call to action, the non-peaceful actors (Jews and Palestinians alike) who see her say that are going to use that as a means to justify their actions and feelings. Jews will think she is inciting violence against them purposefully (again I do NOT!) and Palestinians will think she is raising a hand in solidarity for their deeds. This whole thing is on a razors edge and I am sick of seeing these two groups be vile towards each other over conflicts started by and exasperated by outside actors.

The only one worth monitoring is the Kentucky Governor’s race between incumbent Democrat Andy Beshear and Mitch McConnell acolyte Daniel Cameron. Polls were deadlocked the past week or so. Republicans will cakewalk in the other state races.

You would think Cameron would struggle after the debacle he made of the Breanna Taylor case.

Yeah, go ask how they feel about Breonna Taylor down in, say Somerset or Glasgow (really any area where the "JESUS OR HELL" signs pepper the landscape), and you'll get a completely different and probably appalling answer than you will in Louisville.

Where is KY in the dipsh-t standings?

This says 13th.

The fact that most states still have 45% or higher "highly religious" is a sobering reminder that the God disease is still ravaging this country and stalling a lot of progress.

You can be "highly religious" and not scum. One could be committed to a theology of kindness, love, tolerance, and charity. It has happened. Jesus would like it. If you only taught the Gospels, and not the obscenity that is most of the rest of the Bible, you'd have a great platform for a population with good character and decent ethics. Someone who was "highly religious" and devoted to the cardinal virtues would be a good neighbor.

The American problem is our brand of intense religiosity is fundamentalism: the foulest, stupidest, and most vicious type of theism. I would never expect atheism to replace fundamentalism. Atheism is a tribal marker of the highly educated, intelligent, and cosmopolitan, and so it is held sincerely by a tiny minority. But a generous, gentle religiosity of Jesus without the Cruelty might gradually push fundamentalism out of the Southern and Prairie bloodstream, the way progressive Congregationalism gradually pushed out Puritanism from New England, and defanged religion in the Northeast. Something similar happened in Europe, with an ecumenical, liberal "shopkeeper Christianity" replacing the nightmares of Authoritarian Catholicism, Calvinism, and Pietism.

The majority -- probably the vast majority -- of our fellow apes need and want and hunger for gods, and should have them to keep sedate and untroubled. I don't mean this cynically -- it's not cynical that I take anti-anxiety meds. I need them; I function poorly without them and the majority of people function poorly when they have no Big Rock Candy Mountain. But those gods could be a moderating force instead of a radicalizing, dehumanizing ideology.

Yeah most of the Lutherans around here are kindly folk who believe in the actual ideals of Christ so that ain't so bad. The kooks in Wisconsin that believe in fundamentalist versions of it (like a former poster here who hasn't been around since he told us Trump made America safer) are friggin vile.

psych has been telling us Kentucky isn't as bad as we stereotype, and I am choosing to believe him. (no snark)

In a city south of Fort Worth Texas, a republican candidate for city council has been charged with a felony for child porn.

guessing he wins by a landslide

When these people have "child porn," does that mean they went out and got an illegal torrent stream of petabytes of 11-year olds, or they surfed Red Tube and a porn star was 17[SUP]1/2[/SUP]?

Or do cops just plant it, like drugs?

The enormous number of people who happen to turn out of have "child porn" seems... statistically unlikely.

Peter Meijer decided to join an already crowded GQP field for Stabenow's seat. His opposition includes James Craig and Mike Rogers.

I wager Grocery Boy doesn't make it very far.

Given that the Texas Republican Party pulled their endorsement….I’m gonna guess under 13

If it was cops planting evidence the people arrested wouldn't be White or Republican...especially in Red States.

All the cases are different. A lot of it is them being in chats and trading images or downloading them...some stuff they make themselves. Some traffic in it...others just indulge. All of it leaves digital footprints and none of these clowns are taking steps to hide it.

As for stats...how many episodes of To Catch a Predator are out there amongst other shows on the subject? There are 300 million people in this country even if .001% are pedos how many is that?

That explains why Grocery Boy's been trying to cozy back up to Hair Furor with some of his comments lately. Cowards, all of them.

This is just a weird take that makes you sound like a Reddit neckbeard who thinks the age of consent should be 12 or first period, whichever comes first.

The other thing is that there apparently a LOT of adults that will openly try and solicit HS age kids. And unfortunately there are enough HS aged kids who "live in the moment" and want to provide for someone who offers them comfort/attention.

It's 100% predatory, but it also seems about as simple as how HS kids get alcohol. Unfortunately kids make dumb choices that can have real life consequences, yet they just don't see it that way in the exact moment.
