2023 D3 Bracketology

Unless a complete collapse happens, Endicott and Curry are starting to look like locks. That leaves two Pool Cs left assuming one of them wins the CCC.

Better win your conference tourney or you’re leaving a heck of a lot to chance!

Assuming that things stay as they are, Utica gets a 1st-round bye as the #2 PW team, don't they?

Not with the way he drew up the bracket. I can’t remember, but I DO think Adrian and Stevens Point are within the 500 miles and could play each other in the first round, which would allow Utica a first round bye.

But, in the bracket that Pioneer drew up he opted for a straight QF between Hobart and Adrian and then byes to Point (because of travel reasons) and Endicott.

The big problem in the West is that if I went straight bracket integrity in the West, it'd be Adrian v. St Scholastica and Stevens Point v. Aurora in Round 1, but, the mileage between Adrian and St. Scholastica does not work,

So the two options are: Flip St. Scholastica and Aurora, which would create an all-NCHA Round 1 game, which I don't know if they try to avoid inter-conference games in the first round, or what I came up with, which felt like the better option

Good point on avoiding conference matchups in the first round. Last year they did it and maintained best bracket integrity by doing it.

I do think things may have been Re-written this year that strongly discourage or expressly deny intraconference matchups in the first round if it’s avoidable without flights. Perhaps in avoiding intraconference matchups MIGHT trump flights now?

Sorry folks, but this is bullshit.

Be fair to the programs, just seed the field via the PW, no matter where the sites.

With all the millions the NCAA garners via the FB and hoops, why can't it throw some chump-change at the lesser sports?

Bouncy ball yes, but don’t believe they get much income from football.

It's never going to change man. Just accept it for what it is and move on. It's been the same set-up for 30+ years.

I did, for fun mind you, a mock bracket where mileage wouldn't be an issue, and it would make for a very interesting tournament in my humble opinion:

1 - Endicott
2 - Utica
3 - Curry
4 - Hobart
5 - Adrian
6 - Plattsburgh
7 - Plymouth State
8 - Norwich
9 - Stevens Point
10 - Amherst
11 - Aurora
12 - St. Scholastica

Round 1:

St. Scholastica @ Adrian
Aurora @ Plattsburgh
Amherst @ Plymouth State
Stevens Point @ Norwich

Quarterfinals:

Stevens Point/Norwich vs Endicott
Amherst/Plymouth State vs Utica
Aurora/Plattsburgh vs Curry
St. Scholastica/Adrian vs Hobart

And with this bracket there is a possibility that Utica could play 4 games on home ice. (In so many ways not likely, but possible....lol)

And with the Nexus Center next door, there's more than enough ice for everyone

And like what was said above, if Utica is in the Frozen Four and it's at the Aud, they will sell all ~4000 seats with very little trouble, so they'll make it work with the AHL

They make very little off of football. Very little.

The Bowl Committee and then the Playoff Committee or whatever they call it essentially owns the commercial rights to those games.

Interesting to note Utica’s schedule is showing the final semis on Friday night and the championship on Sunday.

That is true. There is an off day this year (same for D3 women).

I thought someone once mentioned that the Comets are willing to be flexible if Utica gets to host the championship weekend.
