2023 D3 Bracketology

CCC out of conference record is very impressive this year and boosting Endicott and Curry to the top of the pairwise. We're getting very close to the numbers being statistically relevant as the NESCAC schools continue to make up games and catch up with where the rest of the country is.

Most interesting thing to me that I see right now...Do any of the eastern teams in the top 5 of the pairwise have the ability to host the FF that aren't Utica?

Curry and Hobart surely do not...Endicott (maybe?), but that's probably a no as well if I had to guess meaning Utica (5th) and Norwich (7th) would be next in line as it currently stands. Still 6 weeks of hockey left and PLENTY can change.

My guess is that Endicott’s relatively new, on-campus rink would suffice. Especially since KB Willet at Point worked in 2019 (even though Willet has more seating capacity.)

I had no idea, I apologize! But like spwood said, that wouldn't change anything this time around. I will be sure to add that in next time around

No problem. We're a little inconsistent this year and the bottom half of the WIAC is so weak I can reluctantly see a need for that AQ to possibly come into play.

1,000 seats....I'm not sure that's enough...but maybe that's why I said they might have a shot. Willett I believe was 1500 or 1600 and it was packed.

I'm not gonna lie, and I'm biased, so just know that going in, but with the new building next door with 3 full sheets + the 4000 seat arena, if you have to defer from the top team for whatever reason, Utica would have to be the favorite if they were in there, just because of how easily you could accommodate everybody

Shouldn't matter.

The top seed ought to host, even if it hosts it outdoors in a frozen cow pasture.

Do they have four locker rooms? Plus something for the refs?

What is the hotel situation in that area?

Hotel situation is fine on the North Shore.

There are 4 locker rooms; men and women’s teams have separate locker rooms.
just a question, as I’ve been to a number of arenas. Is each of the 4 locker rooms large enough for a collegiate team, or would two be needed for each team? That could factor into the equation.

To Jerry's point...Norwich has six "visiting" locker rooms along with the main ones for the men's and women's teams for a total of eight and then a refs room.

However, two visiting locker rooms have to be combined in order to fit a college team. So they really only have five full-size locker rooms with the three visiting and two Norwich ones. But obviously it's enough to host as Kreitzberg has hosted the men's three times and the women's once.

Nobody travels to see D-3 hockey, anyway. Hotel space won't be an issue anywhere.

That’s not entirely true. When the D3 tournament has been at neutral sites and folks have been able to plan for it, there had definitely been a small contingent of folks who have traveled to it, no matter where it’s been.

Ive had St. Norbert fans, Elmira fans, Middlebury fans ask me about ticket situations at various sites throughout the years. I know for sure Don Hammond, Elmira fan has been to most if not all D3 final hours since 2006.

As a Hobart fan we got a pretty good contingent to travel to Steven's Point in 2019, almost all by air. Of course, if my team is not in the finals, no way I'm traveling anywhere. Happy to visit Beverly or Utica if we make it, but would like a rockem/sockem game in the Cooler on the way.

Hobart had a very strong showing at Stevens Point. I remember watching the Point/Hobart game and being impressed how many fans there were. I think Hobart had more than Norwich. Geneseo probably had the smallest contingent IIRC.

We had a great pregame at the Hotel bar where our Presidents bet on the outcome of the Pointers v. Statesmen game as the Hobart President bet our best NYS wine and the Pointer Prez offered Wisconsin's best local cheese. Our best goalie ended up with mono and even so, we put up a good fight but had to hand over the wine after the game.Nice people in Wisconsin, but anytime they'd see us with Hobart gear they'd just shake their heads and say they were sorry for the beating we were going to take...they sure loved those Pointers.

That Point team was special that year. Hobart and Norwich both gave heroic efforts to try and knock them off, but it just wasn't meant to be.
