2023 D3 Bracketology

That's not what the waiver from the NCAA says :)

And technically, the Aud and Nexus Center are one building, they are connected

It is what it says....It has to be the same ice sheet the host plays at least 50% of its games. Even the practice sessions must be on that surface, We talked about this before, Plattsburgh had to give up a first round game because the women's final 4 was there and there would not be enough time for the practices even though AmCan Arena right in town was willing to help out. Russell will confirm this. AND, if Plattsburgh can win 2 games, problem solved!! And, if the Plattsburgh women happen to host the week before, the logos will be already on the ice !!

We've heard it all before, we know

What I'm saying is, and this is from trusted people from Utica, is that the NCAA already granted them a waiver and that they'd allow it to happen. And that's if the AHL doesn't move the game in Utica, which I'm told is still on the table as well.

Let's be real, and this isn't to be rude to other buildings or rinks, but even if it's at the Nexus Center instead of the Aud, it's still better than most other options

Both Plattsburgh and Norwich have more capacity and are both nice facilities. Both can hold about 2000 fans or more. I really think they should go back to neutral sites, especially Lake Placid.

Best part about this year is that they may have the option to use a neutral site location they've already used before in Utica

Hobart played @ Adrian last year in the second round and the attendance was 1247. By the way, Hobart does not charge for any sporting events on campus, so if you look for attendance it's just a guess or sometimes they put in 0. For NCAA games at the Cooler they have had just over 1000 paid in a couple of cases....although the student's cheeks( the face ones,I think, although the visiting players have accused students of exhibiting other parts of the anatomy) were pressed up on the glass most of the game...lol....The Cooler is unique.

Mystery solved. Until reading this I thought I got into the 2019 RPI-Hobart football game for free because whoever was supposed to be manning the booth at the scoreboard end of the field simply didn't show up (just like the 2019 Engineers that particular day).

Seriously though, there is no way D1 Lacrosse can be free. Or is it???

I hate like Hell to agree with you, but I do. Despite Landsberger's .924 S%, he doesn't really pass the eye-test IMO.

This is my thought exactly. It’s not hard to have that good of a S% when you face <15 shots a night. And this is from as diehard of UC/UU fan as they come. He makes me nervous every time he leaves the net, or on every odd man rush.

All of this talk about Utica hosting the final weekend is premature until they can actually win and get there for a change.

I can tell you one team that definitely won’t be hosting it…..St Norbert

Correct. But has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that for all the talk about perennial national power Utica hosting, it still needs to win the quarterfinal first. Which it often has trouble doing.

Its being talked about because there are only 3 teams with the capability of hosting. Utica, Norwich, and Plattsburgh. Plattsburgh and Norwich play each other in the first round, and that winner goes to play in arguably the toughest away rink in the country against a red hot Hobart team.

For what its worth, I have heard similar to Pioneer. IF Utica makes the final 4 (IF), they will host. I can say that with absolute certainty.

Is it possible that schools like Endicott, UNE, and Hobart also applied for and were granted exceptions to host at a location that isn’t their primary sheet?

The Plattsburgh/Norwich winner goes to Endicott, not Hobart

Although Hobart is D1 lacrosse, the decision was made back in 2019 to make all sporting events free, with the exception of the required payments at NCAA tournament games. When the hockey team has to charge for the NCAA game on 3/18, there may be a few surprised local fans. Personally, I think the Statesmen are well worth the price this season :). PS Sorry the Engineers lost that day, but at least you didn't have to pay.

This is why the Frozen Four should be at a predetermined neutral site always. What if there was a year where no team has a site capable of hosting?
Not to mention deciding the location so late could make traveling plans for fans and families difficult if not impossible.

Also I understand that attendance does not play into it, but I feel like the unknown of location decreases the amount of fans that are attending without supporting a specific team.
I’ve attended the Frozen Four 5 times since 2013 and only once when my team was there (2013). This was because we knew where it would be and were able to schedule ahead of time traveling plans.

I agree with this comment. There are a number of potential facilities that could be great neutral sites. I attended the Final Four in Lake Placid and that was a cool place to watch, with all of the Olympic history. I also thought the facility in Buffalo was scheduled at some point during the pandemic (?) and is a fantastic location for a final four. All of this uncertainty about where the FF will be held is kinda crazy. That said, I also attended the FF at Stevens Point and the Pointer fans were great hosts except the lady at McDonalds who saw my Hobart swag and gave me a half hearted "good luck" but told me her Pointers were going to CRUSH my team . Gotta love the local passion.
Looked it up.... Hartford in 2024 and Utica in 2026 ......

I've very clearly used the words "if" and "may" whenever I've talked about it, but thank you for your concern

Hope you have a good next game-day in October

Yes, LP because of the history there or the Harbor Center in Buffalo would be awesome locations. In the west, some of the women specific facilities would be great choices: Ridder at UMinn (which has hosted the men's d3 FF twice,) LaBahn at UW, or the Resch Center in Green Bay where the Gamblers play would all be excellent pre-determined sites.

Hockey in Lake Placid just feels special. I’ve been to 4 Frozen Fours there and 4 ECAC D1 conference championships there. It’s always a good time, tends to draw lots of fans from teams not in the tournament (likely because of the history) and the surrounding area is magical in the winter.

However I can imagine traveling there could be a nightmare for western fans as the closest decent sized airport is over 2 hours away and winter weather can be dicey. I’m fortunate to be within a 3 hour drive.
