2023 - 2024 SEASON : Boston College

Good to get back to giving up just one goal. Gasseau is most likely out for the Beanpot. It will be interesting to see who they bring up.

Go Eagles!

Vote if he is cleared to play, they are going to need a defensemen as well. Agree on #6, didn't see what started it but he got 2 minutes for coming into a scrum late earlier in the game.

Good night to be an eagle. This Bill O'Brien news, while not shocking in that he was the frontrunner floated for a week, is still shocking in that BC didn't screw this up.

You have to like the response and great start following the Beanpot no-show performance on Monday. You hope they carry these lessons they are learning into the bigger games when we start playing in one-and-dones. This week provided some good learning opportunities; show up for the start and don't get sucked into any nonsense with opposition goonery.

I love what the bottom two lines are doing. Posma and Shamburger have been excellent the past few weeks flying around and Armstrong just brings this presence that's hard to pin down but it's there in a good way and he could play well on any line I think. Want to see Ambrosio break through, the effort is there and the kid deserves it.

Let's hope Gasseau is ok.

I think both Shamburger and Posma are playing well, they have accepted their roles and gobble up minutes while the top six take breathers. Agree on Armstrong, nothing fancy, I think he could look for a little more offense, he is solid in all three zones and does and excellent job on the PK with Posma. He brings game experience and hockey sense to the team.

I doubt they go with another Defenseman. They have been playing 7 all year so being down Fortescue they easily can play with 6. I don't know if Joyce would be given a shot at the 7th defenseman yet. As for forwards if Vote is ready he is the first to fill the spot vacated by Gasseau's absence. If not any two of Traeger, Davey or Delay could fill out the #12 and #13 forwards. They all looked very good in the Canadian exhibition game.

NU didn't belong on the ice with BU and somehow won the game. That's life.

As I recall, that nearly the exact same thing the Russian coach Viktor Tikhonov uttered in 1980 after losing to the US team. Obviously you have never played the game.

Geesh...calm down, man. I get it that you're euphoric right now, but he's right. BU totally dominated the game and lost on two BAD goals against. The second goal was horrendous...Caron was out of position. Having said that, there definitely is something "missing" from this Terrier team. Unfortunately, it might be at the position where you can least afford it. But don't act like Whitehead was Jim Craig. BU didn't exactly create fantastic chances where he stoned them.

I'm just saying that building a championship team has alot more to do with chemistry than loads of talent. I think both BU and BC could learn from the most recent NCAA champions that have played in the portal era from New England QU, PC and UMASS, none of whom were stacked with NHL blue chips, beyond a a couple of kids just really good chemistry. This is especially true in college and amateur sports. Their is no denying that the best team often doesn't win, right now from December 1st thru today. NU is 10-4-3 with wins against BC, QU, Maine and BU twice So it's not a coincidence. All those wins all were come from behind games in which NU did not score first. However they aren't better than any of those teams, they are just finding a way to win. Hopefully BU and BC will also find a way in March too.

Watching BC play the dreaded consolation game without a few guys and the backup goalie getting his first start, I have no worries about team chemistry. They played a committed game in front of him and we're thrilled he got the shutout. It doesn't guarantee anything going forward but chemistry won't be the downfall. I would say the same for BU. It's tough making the now outdated take about BC and BU having stars but not a TEAM when they could be the two best teams in the country.

Maybe you can get the NCAA to commission a second trophy - "Best Team on the Ice Even Though We Got Less Goals Than The Other Team That Didn't Belong on The Ice With Us" ?
A couple of other suggestions: Eliminate keeping score? Bring in the Romanian figure skating judge, throw out the high and low score, and proclaim that your team won based on artistic impression?

I’m not sure I’d call all NUs goals bad. Maybe the second one. The first was greasy but that doesn’t make it bad.

You want to talk about bad goals? Without two major screwups by Northeastern BU only gets one goal all game. For all their talent they spent too much time jerking with the puck instead of trying to put it in net.

edit to add: Yes BU has more talent and is probably the better team, but we have three observations now where we took them to overtime. In theory BU should have blown us out. Despite all the talent I think there is more parity than some would like to admit.

Dude, I was rooting for NU. Just providing an observation that much of the game looked like a BU PP with NU constantly hemmed in their own zone.

Fewer.

Ah yes, BC's line of first round pick freshmen who famously need to work on their chemistry

As a fan, it would be frustrating if they win no hardware or trophies, as JY would say (trophy time) despite their record. They could possibly win out the next 7 games and get knocked out in the HE Tournament. Peaking at the right time and chemistry and those other intangibles and a little luck maybe. This kind of talent does not come often.

UMA players are falling down more than a kid a minute after his training wheels come off. Adolescent move by coaches to encourage it.

UMASS announcers go beyond Bernie Corbett, BC gets fluky goals, gets away with all kinds of penalties, including 7 men on the ice, amazing they only won 5-1 "but Umass outplayed BC" Leonard was terrific which they did acknowledge.

Those announcers for Umass were hilariously bad all night and had me wishing Colby Cohen would crawl out of John Buccigross's backside and say "twisted wrister" 100 times like he does for BU games.

BC's first two goals were absolutely fluky but they finished the job with a good 2nd and a great 3rd. Fowler again was the best player on the ice. Yes this game could have been very different. But it wasn't. Good teams find a way to win. Moment of the season may have been Leonard choosing to not retaliate after a dirty hit and then coming back to absolutely rip a PPG and put the crowd on ice. You hope everyone has been talking about these things and not beating themselves as the games get bigger. Certainly a noticeable, teachable moment for this team.

Carvel impresses the heck out of me but boy what a stupid challenge on the play where the Umass player grab a BC defender's arm and pulled both of them down (the announcers said slew-foot lolololol) and then held onto the BC players stick under the arm for 10 seconds. We need to make coach's challenges more impactful and just make it a penalty if they lose a challenge. The timeout, while nice, is a very easy chip to throw on the table to try to find a 5-min major potentially, which is potentially a massive game-changer.
