2023 - 2024 SEASON : Boston College

I obviously didn't expect a sweep. I didn't think they would be THIS good this year. I wasn't entirely sold on Greg Brown but he's proving he is the right man for the job. Winning trophies is difficult but he has them back where they should be.

BC is in a good place right now but Brown has to win some hardware and trophies or he will be another Len Ceglarski. No NCAAs and one Beanpot per decade. He has the material to do it with all these good players and recruits coming in. BC color man was ripping BC with their sloppy play on the radio. Play hard on every shift and smart or get off the F.... ice. 5 penalties in a row is not a good recipe for success.

Brown is doing a very good job with a very talented but extremely young team. They’ve gotten light years better defensively, their PK is the best in the country and they just swept the #1 team in the country. It took York 4 years to make the NCAAs and 7 years to win a beanpot. Let’s relax with the Ceglarski comparisons

Brown is doing a very good job, it is early days for him but I like the way they play and he is working with some serious talent. I am sure he would be the first to tell you that a number of these kids committed when they thought they would be playing for JY. However he added what he needed in the portal, experienced smart players who accept their roles. It is hard to win with Freshmen even harder with 11 of them, you need some seniors/grads who add the experience needed in big games. Brown singled out Bengston on Friday and said he played his best game of the year. Malone has been a glue g all year and it is not by accident that he wears an A on his sweater. Good for him. And Armstrong has accepted his role, kills penalities adds a grit and is a solid winger, coming over from the dark side to boot. I also like Browwn's style, quiet, composed and respectful of opponents and officials. That goes a long way in the locker room and the living room of the parents of prospective players. He is an excellent representative of the University, just like Jerry York. I think he will have a lot of success not just this year but in future years.

JY had very little to work with after the fiasco with Cedachuk and Milbury. Quite a few players transfered or left to other programs. At least Brown started with talent last year and more this year. It's up to him for the program to succeed.

JY could have been coach if Flynn hired but felt JY was not ready and took over at Clarkson where Lenny was while Lenny went to BC.

Ambrosio is snake bitten when it comes to scoring. He skates so fast and is all over the ice but just does not have the knack to put the puck in the net. He was and could again be very effective with a pure goal scorer on his line. It doesn't make sense to break up what is working but if they did Jellvik would work better with him now with Armstrong on that line. Malone played well with Gauthier and Gasseau too. Has Vote been injured or has Shamburger stepped ahead of him?

It has been a little curious to see Armstrong bumped to 3rd line with Ambrosio down to the 4th when everyone is healthy. Not a huge deal but Ambosio CAN produce more than he has. Would be great to see him pot a few down the stretch. I believe Vote sustained a concussion against Merrimack and that's why Shamburger was in there this weekend.

Such a good year of college hockey, so many blue bloods are back and all in contention. Very fun year to be a fan of college hockey

This is true but coming with consequences. The blue bloods have figured out that you need to mix veterans in with your stud rookies
The transfer portal has given them an avenue to do that

the thing that concerns me is that NIL money and the portal are going to widen the gap between the best teams and others
We are already seeing the ECAC (except Quinnipiac) and CCHA fall back to Atlantic hockey levels. The tourney might feature only 1 school from those conferences
create 3 strong conferences and 3 weak ones

All I'm saying is there is very little reason right now to being criticizing Brown especially after this past weekend. No doubt Brown inherited a solid roster, a solid '22 recruiting class and great '23 recruiting class. He also kept that recruiting class together then added Perrault and Fowler to it and brought in Bengtsson, Malone and Armstrong. He's also put together another great recruiting class in 2024. They're ranked #1 in the country with the best PK in the country, 3rd in the country in goals per game and 4th in the country in goals against per game.

I just think it's a bit ridiculous to throw out Ceglarski comparisons right after they just swept BU. I know some people weren't in love with Brown's hiring and he hasn't won anything yet but I think it's been a pretty good year

Works for me, a lot of bozo programs started to ruin the sport bringing in all the overage players to compete. They earned it.

100%. Seeing 26 year old college hockey players and an insane number of 25 year olds playing is a joke. I know a lot of that is due to COVID still but there should be a 24 year old age limit in college hockey. Looking at this list of oldest players in college hockey is wild https://www.collegehockeynews.com/al...r-birthday.php

It is not criticism but a fact. It is only his 2nd year and let's see what he can accomplish. Lenny I am sure was nice guy and a good coach but didn't win any NCAA in his tenure and didn't win many trophies at the Garden.

The 90s was a sh**show for the most part due to the fiasco after Lenny. BU took advantage and won how many Beanpots ???

Armstrong is 25, Bengtsson 24. I don't like seeing 25 year olds either but do business as business is being done.

Just a bizarre comparison to already bring up. Feels like I’m listening to Felger on the sportshub

I agree. I don't like it, but refusing to do it is like Dabo Sweeney refusing to make use of the transfer portal at Clemson. You're fighting with an arm tied behind your back.

Agree that it is not what college hockey should be about but things have changed so much in the last 10 years. High end recruits stay 2 years (if your lucky) and transfers are now a way of life or death. NHL has taken over the college game and now with NIL it is only going to be worst. To stay on top year after year coaches are going to have to manage their rosters. The ones who do it best are going to have the most success. As much as I don't like it Brown has done a good job this year with the three grad transfers he brought in. York in prior years not so much.
