2023 - 2024 SEASON : Boston College

Ignore this whole thread bud. If you’ve actually been to any eastern regionals or Frozen Fours in the past 2.5 decades you would have seen me in passing.

My guess is you were the guy wondering when halftime is.

I certainly didn't think it would be considered a hot take that both BC and BU would prefer to play in Providence/Springfield. Seems like common sense. Sure they don't have fan support like Maine or North Dakota at one of these things but they would have a decent amount. Compared to Missouri where they would have next to none. I'm sure any coach would prefer not getting on a plane when you could travel at most 90 minutes to Springfield. Regardless of what your fan support is.

We fans would rather see our team play in person, win or lose. Most of us don't travel for regionals.

I’m honestly not sure if I’m arguing with a child just out of college still living with mom or a bitter 60yo man lollllll.

Either way, the initial “sleeping in your own bed” comment isn’t a thing the night before an NCAA tournament game but I’m sure he knew that……

I’m done feeding the troll

I would rather go to the Mizzou regional if it means avoiding Quinnipiac. I’m more concerned with match-ups than where we play.

Huge weekend coming up for our defense. I expect BU will bring a heavy forecheck.

Sucks for both BC and BU that they have to play 3 times in 9 days. Who does the scheduling for HEA?

Go Eagles!

Idiotic scheduling and absolutely criminal these teams are meeting in the first round of Beanpot. It honestly takes some of the steam out of the event for me this year. But I know this is a rare season where both teams are at the top of their game.

These two teams could play 5 times this year, in fact it would be great if they did, it means they are playing at the Garden again and in ST. Paul. Isn't the fourth regional in Maryland ?

It’s Maryland Heights, Missouri, right outside St Louis. It’s at the Centene Ice Center. It’s only a 2500 seat arena, weird venue to have it at

2,500? Seriously? I didn't even think that was allowed for regional hosting. Man, desperate times if that is considered one of the best bids. Granted, with such an odd location I am not expecting a huge crowd but hey maybe you'll actually see a somewhat full building depending on local interest/ticket prices. But having said that I am sure ticket prices will continue to be absurd.

Ticket prices at face value there are pretty cheap. $55 for both games Friday and $40 for Sunday.

I’m so over the neutral site regionals. I can kind of wrap my head around it if they want bigger venues but 2,500 seats is a joke. No reason for it anymore. The whole fairness argument is complete crap too because it’s usually a lower seeded team who’s host of the venue anyways so why should they get the advantage over a team who earns it. For example, if BU or BC are the #1 seed, why should they play in Providence against Providence in a regional final if they get there. I know the commute isn’t horrible but it’s still 2 hours for me to get there vs. 30 minutes to BC. Same goes for playing in Springfield vs. UMass

Portland, Maine was always considered too small at 6K+......weird indeed.

Ya I'm just so curious why the ended up with such a small venue. If they had no one else bid on it, then what in the world are we even doing now, just let the schools host it. If they landed it because it was a contingent for their frozen four bid then that's also a big red flag. I'm just mystified by the whole thing. I'm hoping one of these college hockey reporters is digging into it and we'll find out some info

Perhaps one of the most impressive things about BC hockey is how consistently good they have been over the years. As of now this is tied for the longest stretch that BC has not appeared in a Frozen 4, for 7 years, with the last appearance in 2016. The other time was 1966-1972. They have only had one other gap greater than 5 years as well in their history, 6 years from 1979-1984. The only other school without at least a 10 year gap is Minnesota with 9. North Dakota 10 years would be next best. Minnesota has had 4 other gaps of 6 or 7 years as well to go with their 9 year gap. North Dakota has had 2 other 9 year gaps and an ongoing 7+ gap now as well. Even the stalwart programs that have more titles like Michigan and Denver have much wider gaps. Michigan 12 and 14 years, Denver 12 and 17 years, BU 11 years twice, Wisconsin 21, 13 and another 13+ years ongoing now, Michigan State 16 and another 16+ ongoing now, and Harvard had a 22 year gap. So, BC has been far and away the most consistent Frozen 4 participant

Impressive history, the period from 1998-2016 was the Goldden Age of BC hockey, loved watching them play that up tempo style and be successful. 98 through 2001 surprised many but they were really good and only got better. The down period started when they lost 7 guys to the pros after the 2016 FF appearance. They had a legit FF team in 2020 but the season was canceled so we will never know. The transfer portal and the 5th year eligibility caught York flat footed particularly in goal. This year Malone and Bengston have been solid additions and brought some needed experience and grit to a very young team. It is the brave new world of college hockey so it is experience adjust experience for everyone. Brown seems to be able to bring high end talent, though the USA line committed to BC before JY announced his retirement.
