2022 NCAA Tournament

Anyone have a hotel recommendation near Lake Placid that’s not $500+ a night?!?!

Even my Marriott card tossed me an L lol

It's pretty much too late to get anything semi reasonable (which is very relative) nearby. Even if there wasn't a hockey tournament. Lake Placid is a resort town, and as such, rooms book up no matter what's going on. Try some of the Mom & Pop establishments. They are hit and miss in quality, though.

See I stay at Dad's house in Elmira and we drive the 5 hours up and back. Four different drivers makes the trip easy.

Predictions..?

Genny and NEC are built the same way. I'll give Genny the slight nod because I've seen both teams, and IMO Genny has better hands and feet.

On the other side of the bracket, it's hard to bet against AC. There's no evidence to suggest otherwise.

My final: Adrian 5, Genny 3.

Any takers?

(And, sadly, before any trolls hijack this neutral thread, I must admit that I would have picked AC over Utica, as well.)

It's U-N-E.

It's hard not to pick Adrian.

UNE v Geneseo

Gap Control. Gap Control. Gap Control. This was the topic of interest for me this week ever since UNE showed solid Gap Control against Utica. The Blocks, "The Poke's"(Captain #15 Austin Morgan is very cagey in this department as he keeps his arms tucked and not at a reach and can "Poke" it from the Puck Carrier covertly and find himself on a breakaway) and the consistent angling of Utica to the outside on the boards. UNE was forcing problematical shots every time Utica insisted on breaking down UNE with a single Puck Carrier. UNE will look for the breakout Pass as the Goal was not the only Breakout they had in that Game. The Winger on the Top Line #23 Jared Christy broke out a couple times in that Game and was found from a great Pass on one dangerous look in the 1st but failed to convert. UNE was defending in the 3rd a 1-0 lead and did it with three guys that stayed tight together in front of their Goalie #1 Girard and just obstructed and made the middle of the Ice complete gridlock by jamming the Puck Carrier and anyone else that was coming in the slot area. Now Utica's most dangerous looks came when they played fast up the Ice. Crispy quick Passing and they would get thru the Neutral Zone clean and find themselves with some decent looks. Which brings me to Geneseo...

Geneseo has been one of the more entertaining teams I have seen all year in attack. Babson played them straight up(credit to them) and Geneseo put on a Passing clinic while filling Lanes and moving off the Puck better then any team I have seen this year. Now because Babson played them straight up at least in the 1st it gave Geneseo more space then they will see against UNE who will play them similar to the way they played Utica. The kid #11 Alex Wilkins showed herculean courage with seven legitimate blocks. Geneseo also hunts the Puck in the O Zone as well as any team I have seen after losing it. They disrupted Babson all Game and created some dangerous chances off of their Forecheck. If UNE is sloppy with the Puck and has their head down for even 2 seconds or if a D Man passes to his teammate's backhand or whatever mistake it is Geneseo will pounce and it will get stripped. UNE must play faster out of their end then they did against Utica. That could be a challenge for UNE against Geneseo because Geneseo has more team speed and again will fill lanes and read Passes so UNE must be careful with the Puck and play as fast as possible out of their end with some of those good Seam Passes.

UNE has the advantage in Goal and it is going to come down to that again in this Game. Do not be surprised if UNE scores some Goals in this Game as well as when Geneseo is pushing numbers forward UNE will have opportunities to burn Geneseo on their own Rushes if they have that solid Gap Control again. This Game could be a solid chess match and am looking forward to it.

The West I have not a Clue so I will leave that up to others but looking at Adrian's schedule it reminds me of Utica's and I do not see many competitive Games in the past two months. So if they happen to find themselves in one this weekend what will that look like? To much talent? Maybe ... but I never under estimate how over confident 21-25 year old's can get when they are Winning like this. However what does it look like if they find themselves in a tight Game or even Jesus Christ "behind" in a Game. What will that look like?

On what are you basing your claim that UNE has the advantage in goal? Petizian plays well in big games and has a .934 save percentage. Just wondering. (I like your analysis overall.)

Good catch.....Honestly I am unsure about Geneseo's Goalie. U really need to see especially a Goalie's Game in person before you can make a judgement and you should probably make sure you watch more than 2 Games and against different types of teams and styles. So basing it on nothing but Girard's performance against Utica. I am going to go back and look at Babson's 2 Goals in the 3rd rn and see what happened there

Petizian gave up a total of 9 goals in 6 games against Oswego (3 games), Plattsburgh (2 games), and Utica (1 game, a 3-0 shutout). (The Babson game alone is a sample of 1. Same thing with UNE's Utica game. You know what that means in statistics...) Petizian has a higher save percentage and lower goals against average over the course of the season than Girard. Given how Girard has played of late, I'd say it's a draw. Both are capable of stellar performances.

I was about to say the same thing. I think the advantage in goal is very debatable either way.

Nonetheless, thanks for the game analysis, Mr. Right.
