2016 MLB Season - Curses, foiled again?

Only the NL hated the ASG deciding home field. Since they lost 11 of 14. Haha.

But they won 8 of 14 World Series titles under the rules.
Cardinals and Giants represented five of the eight wins.
And of the six American League wins, three were the Boston Red Sox.

No accounting for AL teams blowing it. Looking at you Rangers and Indians.

He may be on the move to here???

@jonmorosi: #Pirates and #Nationals have had serious talks about an Andrew McCutchen trade, source confirms @Ken_Rosenthal and @jaysonst reports. @MLB

Baseball avoids a lockout and agrees to a five year CBA (expires after 2021 season).

Changes: Really none. A couple minor changes to draft picks for FA signings. No International Draft. Luxury Tax will increase over the life of the CBA, but not by much.

Every home clubhouse must now have a chef. And spring-training buses must have at least two seats per player. This was important to them.

The FA compensatory pick goes from the first to the third round. That actually seems like a big deal (and screws small market teams).

Also something very nasty happened to the A's but I don't really understand it. In effect the other owners told them they were cheap bastids who pocketed their luxury tax as pure profit without helping the ballclub, no soup for you.

Phillies supposedly hot for him too.

I wish we would at least give him a look. Always loved him as a player, and its not like our OF has Clemente and Mays.

I was really annoyed when I first saw the phrase, "Avoided a lockout" in headlines after an agreement was met because to me it's simply incredulous with all the money being made on both sides that they could possibly reach an impasse. But if the above tweet is true and the players really are that freaking spoiled and pampered then nothing surprises me anymore.

It sounds like they are exactly comparable to others who make the same salary.

You know the joke about sports strikes: millionaires fighting with billionaires. I see few white hats, but statistically there are likely more on the millionaire side.

There's a reason they're known as the most powerful union.

I saw a quick graphic on MLBNet when I came home. Their cut of the revenue sharing goes from 100% of their slice this year, to 0% in 2021. They got $35 Mil this season, so it's going to be a pretty big cut.

From what I heard them talking about, this wasn't quite so much them being cheap bastids... but moreso that they're crying "small market" when the Giants just up the street aren't.

Essentially they got a waiver to be a small market team last CBA because of the stadium situation. Now the owners are telling them it's time to get their ish together and be a competent franchise.

So they'll move, I assume? Isn't San Jose bigger than the whole SF/Oakland area now?

Hell, move to Mexico City, it's bigger than NYC.

Yup. The A's wanted to build in San Jose, Wolff owns the Earthquakes as well, but the Giants kiboshed that.

The A's gave up the SJ territory to the Giants when the Giants were having problems in the late 80s/early 90's, and it was thought that the Giants might move.
