2016 MLB Season - Curses, foiled again?

Status
Not open for further replies.
Andruw Jones has a wait ahead of him. I would not be surprised to see Vizquel get in, barely, to make for a class of 5. Chipper and Thome are slam dunks to me, and as I said before, Vlad and Hoffman are all but in next year.
The next few years are going to be interesting. So many names, all that need 75% or higher. I feel bad for some of the guys who are eliminated right away thanks to the 5% rule.

Re: 2016 MLB Season - Curses, foiled again?

Transparent voting is going to get rid of alot of the protest votes. So it should be easier for guys to get a fair shake.

Re: 2016 MLB Season - Curses, foiled again?

Gulf Coast League is very low A-ball. Not that big of a deal.

This is still an awful idea.

Re: 2016 MLB Season - Curses, foiled again?

Why are they trying to fix extra innings? It's not like every game goes extra, and not every extra inning game is a 19 inning affair.

I'd bet the average extra inning game is 11 innings.

Exactly. Extra innings are not the problem.

Limit catchers' visits to the mound instead.

Nailed it. Since 1970, the average is 2 (range of 1.763 to 2.446). The average has actually been slightly decreasing since 1970, but since 2000ish, it's been increasing.

Re: 2016 MLB Season - Curses, foiled again?

Other interesting trends:
HRs have been steadily increasing. Almost .72/yr
SOs have been rapidly increasing. 7.1/yr
Hs are flat
2Bs are increasing at about .7/yr
tOPS+ is flat
BABIP is steadily increasing.

Re: 2016 MLB Season - Curses, foiled again?

Why are they trying to fix extra innings? It's not like every game goes extra, and not every extra inning game is a 19 inning affair.

I'd bet the average extra inning game is 11 innings.

Without MLB stating as much, it has to do with beer sales and concession stand operations in general at the stadiums. If the beer sales normally close after the 7th, and other concessions after the 8th, then when you hit extra innings you could see the casual fans becoming less entertained, and the drunks who're sobering up started towards that unruly state. Add to that, people have lives outside of the games and the crowds will start to leave the game earlier than the end of the game, either putting the kids to bed after a night game or whatever other plans following a day game.

Baseball in general has an issue with younger generations losing interest in their game. Attention spans have shortened, and baseball was built in an era where people could watch a long game without issue, entertaining themselves and reveling in the minutia of the moment. Baseball has issues, and MLB is trying to adjust to those issues.

This is why I hate young people. They ruin everything! :D

Re: 2016 MLB Season - Curses, foiled again?

Limit catchers' visits to the mound instead.

Pitcher must face at least 2 batters. Eliminates LOOGYs and just generally makes the world a happier place. No more 4 pitching changes in a half inning.

If you want to make it fun pitcher must be in the game for at least 2 batters. Bring back Jesse Orosco in RF. I'd trade the time to switch players to have a 2-pitcher switch-off.

But you don't get warm ups pitches when you come in the second time.

Re: 2016 MLB Season - Curses, foiled again?

Seems to me that putting a runner on second makes it almost too easy. Does someone have stats as to the probability of scoring a run with no outs, runner on second? I don’t remember, but is seems like it was pretty high, especially if a team is only playing for one run.

What I think would be hilarious is if they get a bunch of “unintended consequences” games that go fifteen innings because there are a succession of one run innings that go (1)runner advances to third on a bunt, sacrifice fly, or ground ball to the right side (2) runner scores on pretty much anything other than ground ball directly at a drawn-in infielder, pop fly to an infielder, or strikeout.
