2016 Laura Hurd Discussion

Re: 2016 Laura Hurd Discussion

No, no, nothing like that at all. Two teams were playing for a conference championship.

And I suspect that I saw you there in the lobby after the game. Were you there with Greenway after the game? There were a few LFC people over there with her. It turned out that I came down into the lobby right behind Logan Taylor's family.

Kayla Meneghin took the ECAC-W Player of the Year, so Sheeran is definitely out of the running (along with every ECAC-W player besides Kayla).

Re: 2016 Laura Hurd Discussion

So let me get this straight, you want to penalize Sheeran for not scoring in a game she didn't finish and was helped off the ice for not scoring against one of the weakest ranked teams, but you want to praise Greenway for scoring the majority of her points against the weakest ranked SNC team...lol keep trying, you'll get there eventually.

Well one of them is still in the running and the other isn't...

Nice try buddy, that kid played 50 minutes with a sprained knee, so bad she missed the next two games. How did she do today

Who are you referring too? you joined the conversation about a month late....

Another Crosscheck alter ego?

Re: 2016 Laura Hurd Discussion

Shouldn't the finalists have been announced by now?
They always wait until a couple of days before they announce the winner to post who the finalists are. Why, I don't know. Doesn't make sense. Everybody has known for a couple of weeks who the finalists are. The voting has probably been completed and they have not yet announced the finalists.

Re: 2016 Laura Hurd Discussion

The finalists are basically all of the Conference Player of the Years...

If that's the case the players of the year are:

Maddie Winslow - Middlebury - NESCAC - SO
Michelle Greeneway - Lake Forest - NCHA - SR
Kayla Meneghin - Plattsburgh - ECAC West - SO
Kathryn Larson - St. Thomas - MIAC - JR
Chelsea Blackburn - Stevenson - CHC - SO
Chloe Kinsel - UW-RF - WIAC - SR
Alex Starzyk - St. Anselm - NEHC - JR [Likely ineligible as St. A is D2, correct?]

Have to eliminate Blackburn as she's not close to the rest of the pack in numbers. Meneghin has the most points. Greeneway has the most goals. I haven't seen Greenway play but the only player I've seen on Meneghin's level this year is teammate Melissa Sheeran. Though I'll admit I haven't watched many games Plattsburgh did not play in.

I'm sure the final 3 includes Meneghin and Greenway.

I'm not really upset that she's there...but find it amusing that a D2 player can be nominated for Division 3 player of the year. DIdn't they use to only have 3 finalists?

I was thinking it...but held back for the sake of the player....but I do agree.

It's the same thing as when Holy Cross had a D-III All-American in 2012 i believe it was?

Chloe Kinsel wouldn't be a bad pick either for this if we're talking about a career award, which this generally ends up being.

I went back and looked at last year's announcement. They did not whittle it down to just three. It is comical that they have Greeneway listed as NCHA East Player of the Year. I wonder who the finalist is from the NCHA West?

Re: 2016 Laura Hurd Discussion

Does the NCAA or AHCA pay to bring out the finalists not playing in the games?

Not being snarky, but do people really see Holy Cross and St. Anselm as "non-D3" schools when it comes to hockey. Is there a reason, beyond the fact that the other sports at those schools are not D3 and the NCAA will not allow it, that they should not be allowed to officially compete at D3? I'm fairly familiar with both schools but wondered if there is an unfair advantage they have over true D3 schools.
