2015 National Rookie of the Year Cordial Dialogue

Re: 2015 National Rookie of the Year Cordial Dialogue

Quite a few freshman forwards in the 10 through 14 goal range but getting there with less line and team support.

I was going to suggest Karlie Lund was in the mix, but I'll probably be accused of MN bias.

here are the top point getters:

Potomak 11 34 45 MN
Lund 11 16 26 Princeton
Newkirk 14 12 26 BU
Larson 10 16 26 Colgate
Samoskevich 11 14 25 Quinnipiac
Putigna 8 15 23 Providence
Labbe 10 10 20 Colgate
Gabel 12 7 19 Clarkson

it looks like most of the players are playing for a contender

that is a big distance between #1 & #2

Re: 2015 National Rookie of the Year Cordial Dialogue

Black and Selander look to be the top freshman goaltenders so far this season. How about defense?

I don't know what kind of numbers she'd put up on a different (Stronger) team, but Kyra Smith is making a BIG impact on UNH's ability to compete.

Re: 2015 National Rookie of the Year Cordial Dialogue

I think Newkirk merits serious discussion. She has a good sized lead in goals among freshmen and doesn't play with Skarupa and Carpenter.

Potomak gets to play with Brandt and Cameranesi, it's worth noting.

Tell you what -- subtract the goals that Newkirk scored in the ~ 10 games she played with Carpenter as her center, and then see how big her "lead" in goals scored becomes. Your troll posts and your serious posts often have roughly equivalent factual information. :(

Listen, I'm not trying to disrespect Potomak here. As I said my last post, yeah, she's probably going to be RotY.

All I said was that Newkirk should get some consideration for leading all freshmen in scoring without playing any games with Skarupa & Carpenter. Newkirk scored 9 goals with Carpenter on her line, 6 goals without Carpenter. She's played with Carpenter + Skarupa zero times.

10 of Potomak's 11 goals have come in games where she was on the same line as Brandt + Cameranesi, and the one goal that didn't, it was in a game Brandt didn't play, and she still played with Cameranesi.

Surely you can see that Newkirk is worthy of at least a tip of the cap for putting up the numbers she's put up while not part of a superline. That's the only point I was making.

I didn't say anything about Potomak; I'd have been talking about assists if I'd wanted to go there. I think that implying Newkirk's goals came without help from BC's superstars is misleading, just like tip of the cap and serious discussion can mean two different things.

Anyway, Newkirk's had a nice freshman season; let's agree on that.

Re: 2015 National Rookie of the Year Cordial Dialogue

Does the leading freshman goal scorer not merit serious discussion?
She does. Nonsense about not playing with Carpenter and Skarupa when most of her goals come while playing with Carpenter is not all that serious. If you want to have serious discussion, then please, discuss. If you just want to state half-truths and act like you're contributing something meaningful, then don't get all righteous if someone calls you on it.

How is it not meaningful that 2/3 of her games were played on the 2nd or 3rd line, and the other 1/3 were only played with one of BC's two superstars, when giving context to her stats? That's absolutely meaningful information.

I apologize for forgetting about Newkirk's 10 games at the start of the season with Carpenter, but Jesus, I didn't think I needed to go through every one of BC's box scores to avoid having someone jump down my throat.

The overall point I was trying to make, that the bulk of Newkirk's season has been played with linemates below the all-world caliber of Brandt and Cameranesi, is obviously still valid. I'm not suggesting that playing with Carpenter didn't help. Obviously if she played a full season on a line with even just Carpenter, let alone Skarupa, her stats would be even better. We can both agree on this, yes?

EDIT: I mean geez the fact that Newkirk had 9 goals in 10 games with only Carpenter kind of supports my point, when Potomak has scored 12 goals in 25 games with some combination of Brandt + Cameranesi on her line.

With goals being so specifically significant, apparently... am I the only one who thinks Potomak may have more goals per more shots on a different line? That her assist numbers indicate a deference to setting her all world linemates up rather than shooting herself? That's what it has looked like to me...especially early on.

Re: 2015 National Rookie of the Year Cordial Dialogue

Oh yeah...I mean despite the astronomical number of goals Grant would have playing with Hannah and Dani.

First a disclaimer, I agree that she should "be in the mix", that's why I included her in the list of top point getters

but, in addition to what ARM has said
isn't playing on th PP an advantage that some of the rest may not have? so let's throw out PP points

Potomak 11 26 37
Newkirk 11 11 22
Lund 8 12 20
Larson 7 13 20
Samoskevich 11 9 20
Putigna 3 11 14
Labbe 9 7 16
Davis 8 8 16
Gabel 10 6 16
Quaranta 3 12 15

it appears there is a three way tie for goals scored

and isn't it also an advantage if a player has played more games than another? so let's level the playing field and look at the points per game and use that to see how they will end up if they all play 40 games at their present rate:

Potomak 19 59 78
Newkirk 22 19 41
Lund 21 30 51
Larson 15 25 40
Samoskevich 19 22 41
Putigna 15 23 38

yes, playing with math and Excel is fun, isn't it?
