2015 National Rookie of the Year Cordial Dialogue

Re: 2015 National Rookie of the Year Cordial Dialogue

Hockey East top rookies:
Kenzie Kent F BC
Tori Sullivan F BC
Katie Burt G BC
Megan Keller D BC

Victoria Bach F BU
Rebecca Leslie F BU
Denisa Krizova F NU
Leah Lum F UCONN
So if BC fans had to pick their team's RotY to this point, who would it be?

Re: 2015 National Rookie of the Year Cordial Dialogue

My top choices:
Goaltender
Shea Tiley Lots of pressure for a rookie to defend last year's title
Katie Burt Is stopping the shots she should, and piling up impressive numbers in process - real test is yet to come

Defense
Keller Has been very strong and adds offensive threat
O'Connor Has been a bit of a surprise to me - I didn't expect this much, this quickly from her

Forward
Pannek
Pankowski
Cianfarano
Sullivan - putting her in front of Kent; nearly identical stats, but Sullivan plays on third line and limited special teams

Hah well Katie Burt obviously. But I agree with bc6696 that Tori Sullivan is a great addition to her line, and on defense I really like Toni Ann Miano as a very safe pair of hands. She doesn't come forward much but she doesn't make a lot of mistakes.

NOT, Burt and Tiley are good goalies on great teams. But to rise the the level of exceptional? Imagine either one on a Brown or Union what does that look like? It's pretty easy to play "I think" when what you have in front of you can just go down and score another goal. When you watch their styles I don't think they are a match for their own teams. There always seem to be a lot of talk about the good or great player on that great line? But there is this kid #10 a forward at Union, I had a chance to see her play at NE & QUINNY, she's small but man can that kid see the ice and anticipate! She is like watching a little carpy, if she was on BC 1 or 2 line she too would be the rave!

My ECAC All Rookie Team

Goal:

Shea Tiley - Clarkson

Defense:

Savannah Harmon - Clarkson
Erin O'Connor - Cornell

Forward:

Taylar Cianfarano - Quinny
Lexie Laing - Harvard
Kennedy Marchment - SLU

ECAC Rookie of the Year - Taylar Cianfarano
She would be the one from the ECAC chasing National Honors.

Re: 2015 National Rookie of the Year Cordial Dialogue

With an equal number of games remaining on their WCHA conference schedules, among forwards for potential consideration it appears Pankowski of Wisconsin and Pannek of Minnesota have to be considered front runners. Outside of those two Clark of Wisconsin is closest...just looking at forwards.

On defense out of the WCHA, I guess Joyce of Bemidji, Baldwin of Minnesota.

Goaltenders, probably only Sauve of Ohio State.

Only considerations out of the WCHA with a shot and perhaps D and goal not among front runners nationally.

Forwards nationally, Cianfarano, others?

Goaltenders nationally, Burt, Tiley, Sauve, others?

Defense nationally, O'Conner, Keller, others?

Are considerations given to post season performance per freshmen whose teams advance further into the post season?

What about Pannek at UM? She's having quite a year, her stats are better than Pankowski's and she rarely gets a mention.

Except for the mention she got in the first sentence of the post you quoted.

Re: 2015 National Rookie of the Year Cordial Dialogue

If you look at Pankowski's numbers, she has 1 pt in 5 games against the sue and the rodents. I'm not sure that is ROTY material. Clark has less points, but has been a tad more consistent. Honestly I think both have been a little underwhelming based on the hype.

LOL, considering you were the leader of hype on the subject....

I'd say both have had what you'd expect from top recruits for a freshman season

those would be my guess for WCHA all rookie team
although with 2 weekends to go, with some big games Piazza or Schammel could get in past Clark

I kind of like Schammel for WCHA All-Rookie in terms of what she has accomplished given her surroundings.

For the national picture, I was impressed by Savannah Harmon at Clarkson when I got to watch her. She was probably mentioned here earlier, but I'll do so again.

She certainly didn't hurt her case tonight, with 3 goals and an assist, clearly leading her team to a 5-1 win.

Probably helped that Hannah Davidson was in the lineup centering her and Rogan, after missing some games, she's another frosh playing well

A few strong contenders in the spotlight this weekend...which should make things entertaining.

Go 19!

For the goalie position:

Shea Tiley for sure, in a heart beat. She plays much more like a guy goalie, (up/down/up - side to side). Burt is what I would consider more of a girl style goalie (stand up)

The stats are very similar:

Burt -
GP - 34, Goals Allowed - 36, Saves - 589, Save % - 942

Tiley -
GP - 38, Goals Allowed - 51, Saves - 788, Save % - 939

If Burt and Tiley went a national camp (I know they are from 2 different nations), but lets say they did, the goalie coach and evaluators would quickly pick Tiley over Burt on style alone. Then add the fact that Tiley is 5' 10" and Burt is 5' 6". Lights out - Game over.

If Tiley was playing for BC, I would give them the edge to win the Frozen Four. I would even guess they would have gone undefeated this year. Not to pick on Burt, it's just that there is a large discrepancy between these 2 goalies.

If Harvard gets 20 shots on Burt this Friday they will score 3, if they get 30 they will score 5.

a long time ago the All-America Team was designated East & West, probably wouldn't be a bad idea to do that now with the women since there is so little knowledge of what goes on with the other side of the women's hockey world

'just sayin'
Sydney Baldwin & Alexis Joyce would be fine choices for Defense
coaches across the country certainly wanted them for their teams

and there were a ton of freshman forwards in the WCHA this year with loads of talent, should be very interesting the next 3 years

Tiley is the logical choice at the goalie position. Had Suave of OSU been healthy, she would have given Tiley some stiff competition. They both play like guys! I would also add Schammel to the forward list as she had a phenomenal season playing on a much weaker team. And what about Rebecca Leslie at BYU, she had similar stats to Bach and seemed to be dominant at times. So many good players and Division 1 and caliber is getting better and better every year. And where would Pankowski be wihout without Emily Clark? I don't think she gets enough credit. Exciting years ahead of us.
