2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

I avoided responding to this post hoping that your WCHA SUPAHSTAHZ would fall flat on their face today to do the talking for me and they did not disappoint.

;)
I would have been very surprised had UMD completed the weekend sweep. The split is more aligned with expectations.

As far as that other game, that's become UND's standard operating procedure -- sometimes they look unbeatable, and then they turn right around and play like the stuff you wouldn't want on the bottom of your shoe.

The 4th line showed up midway through the 1st and reduced the ice time for 1 & 2. I think 1 & 2 might only have gotten 1 shift each in the third.
With the reduced ice time you would think lines 1 & 2 would have been fresh as can be for today's rematch. Hopefully they were just saving a bunch for next weekend! More realistically, overconfidence likely played a role. That plus their minds were already thinking about that next opponent.

Wait.

Didn't they win?

So winning isn't enough? You have to also score style points?

For me, winning is good enough.

Against this particular opponent, taking into account the first game when the Gophers practically scored at will, so much so that the first two lines didn't get much ice time in the last two periods, I would argue that eeking out a 2-1 win over the last place team (that's 0-14 in the league!) is NOT good enough. Or certainly not good enough to be happy with it. Yes they won, which is the main thing, but I bet that Brad Frost wasn't real thrilled with it either.

As I mentioned overconfidence likely crept in, which is only natural given the circumstances. The team might have been looking past this second game, believing there's no way they could lose, to next weekend's big series against their big rival, a team that's ahead of them in the standings that hasn't lost yet. Which made the Minnesota State rematch a classic "trap game" if there ever was one. And, in a game that close, an unlucky bounce or two could have easily changed the outcome, as well as their mindset heading into next weekend.

I have said it before, GWH fans are spoiled rotten (me included!). I was disappointed because on Friday MSU showed nothing, absolutely the worst performance for a WCHA team I can remember in the last 10 years. Saturday they showed themselves to be a whole lot better but I didn't think the Gophers responded as I would like. OTOH I know at the moment there are a lot of bumps and bruises, aches and pains and parts not working right. Hockey played at this level is very hard on the body and it is easy to ease up when playing a less capable opponent. I'm not unhappy, they got the win & that is what matters. I doubt that this sort of thing will become a feature but I have stopped watching the men because they seem unwilling to play 6 periods every weekend, it is a disease that has infected their locker room I believe and I would hate to see it creep across the way to Ridder. We are darn lucky to have to worry about not beating someone badly enough & I am grateful to the team for allowing me that opportunity!

Yeah that's a pretty poor loss... Harvard's been all over the place so far.

How does a team with two losses on the season qualify for 'being all over the place'? I could understand if we were a .500 team but losing to Dartmouth up at Thompson and UMD on Friday doesn't necessarily qualify as a team that is all over the map especially since we came back with a pretty solid performance yesterday.

Not everyone has the talent and skill of a BC or Wisconsin. Count yourself as lucky that you are able to watch Alex Carpenter night in and night out.

Illikainen with two goals for St Cloud as they beat Lindenwood 3-2 for the sweep.

Skate,

don't get caught up in his posts. I don't know you but I do know that he doesn't really know anything about hockey. not a shot, just the truth. He is a great guy that knows numbers and trumpets.
I've learned to take his posts with a huge chunk of salt. he means well.
it'd be like me posting about the Pythagorean theorem...stating it is all wrong. A+B=BC

I was wrong. I was just surprised to see them lose to Dartmouth and UMD. I thought Harvard was going to have a better start than they did. I also expected UMD to be worse.

To be fair I know very little about hockey but I'm doing the best I can. :D

Don't sell your roster short...3 good lines and a goalie that, if on, is the best in the country

SCSU and UMD play to a 2-2 tie with the Huskies winning the shootout, 2-0, in two rounds.

Evidently they didn't understand my request in Spanish in the other thread. Must not be bilingual. OK...so in pig latin:

I find that hard to believe. Having seen them both this year I would have bet money on the big dawgs and not the little ones.

Re: 2015-2016 Division I Women's Hockey Scores & Results

First period is what you'd expect. Solid well played.

UW came out a bit more aggressive and it appeared UW had the better play. But fairly quickly the Gophers started to exert control over the whole ice (even before much time was spent in the UW end). Towards the end of the period, MN started to get shots. Trick is many were still outside...you can tell UW is the best defensive team the Gophers have played this year.

Colgate beats Clarkson and Princeton beats Harvard. The ECAC is insane.

Wisc 3 - MN 2 in OT
MN D played better than expected, Wisco O not as well.
