2014-2015 University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Womens Hockey

Re: 2014-2015 University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Womens Hockey

I heard Mark Dayton slipped Miller some of his meds to spare the players another meltdown vis-à-vis OSU/UMD 2013 WCHA first round.

JULIANNE IS AWAKE AND CONSCIOUS
By Gabriel Vasichek — 22 hours ago (Thursday, March 5)

WE JUST SPOKE WITH A FULLY CONSCIOUS JULIANNE! Once she came fully to, her first question was "When is PT" (When is physical therapy)! Now that sounds like our Julianne!! :-D She said a few other brief things to establish that indeed she is back, but it takes a LOT of energy. Dr. Bauer asked her where her home was, and she said Duluth. She is gesturing fully and beckoning people to come close so she can speak to them. And now she is sleeping peacefully again. The last thing she said to me (as I was expressing again and again that we are right here in the waiting room if she wants our company) was clearly a desire to bring things back to a peaceful state… She folded her hands, and tipped her head to me and said "Namaste!"

Wow… sorry - I can barely type so if I forget anything I'll add it later. But most importantly JULIANNE IS BACK!!!
A full day of activity
By Gabriel Vasichek — 1 hour ago (Friday, March 6)

Julianne is on the rehab trail, and she's driving the packhorses at their most fervent pace! She is not shy about asking for help from the nurses which is a great thing - and her wonderful care staff is always happy to oblige. :)

Today she spent looking at all the pictures and cards that have been sent to her, and reading her personal information board which is filled with benchmarks of her life. In between doing her 3×10 exercise reps, she lobbied for more swabs of water then was allowed at this stage, and managed to squeeze a few extra mouthfuls out of the nurses. Got to keep a rehabbing body hydrated!! Many friends have gathered around her from near and far. Tonight Rachel visited with her beautiful voice, and played requests from Julianne. Some of them that were played just 12 days ago at the organ donation awareness benefit... Get better steadily & quickly Julianne... Here's to breaking records for rehabilitation!

Continuity? I think the AD made it pretty clear he wants the program to go in a totally different direction when he dropped the hammer on Miller.

Brooky forgot to mention it was a Bold prediction
IOW, completely and utterly wrong
hopefully, Sisti has applied for the MSU-M job as well

I think he made it clear that he wants a completely different person, which isn't exactly the same thing.

I think that Crowell will be a very good hire for some program. I was impressed with the job she did at Harvard a year ago.

As I suggested previously, I thought Schuler would apply...it only made sense given her stated reasons for leaving NU. And if, for whatever, reason UMD already knows that it is not interested in her then they will just let the process unfold and award the position to one of the other candidates.

What hasn't been made clear in print (at least not that I recall) is why Schuler and Kingsbury were lumped in with Miller by UMD. Was it because those salaries were also deemed too high by UMD and they wanted to start with a clean compensation slate for all 3 coaches?

And didn't someone just emphatically insist that Sisti would not be interested in a different position?

Could be, but I don't know of many coaching staffs in any sport where assistant coaches get contract extensions if the head job is vacant. It's one thing if the assistants are already under contract, but if not, it is better to let the new coach pick his/her staff.

Re: 2014-2015 University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs Womens Hockey

And I wonder if more than 3 applied?

And if Schuler also applied at OSU?...although timing logistics (as set out by each of the two programs) may haved play havoc with that idea.

Ditto! I'm a bit over my head in these coaching conversations, but I thought she was terrific last year and I was hoping that her promotion would keep her . . . what? On track? Under wraps? All her comments showed her to be unassuming but confident, and it was not an easy year to be successful.

Schuler seems unaware her interview is merely a ruse and she is already DQ per her association. Right?

As I personally wouldn't adhere to a guilt by association theory or presume that with Schuler you get more of the same as you had with her predecessor, I think they have three good candidates.

sometimes people can turn something that seemingly is a negative into a positive
the committee might think:
"if she can work with Miller, she can work with anyone"

I don't think she is a negative option based on her working with Miller. Maybe she has the inside edge as she can keep some continuity in a program
that had a very good year. I'm just glad there is no UW assistant coach is a finalist (I don't know if either even applied).

And, perhaps more importantly, she may be the most affordable option at a time when the athletic department is looking to reduce expenses.

or more importantly to make them look good
if they wanted cheap, they'd have many other options

Or some combination of the two, plus if the players have any say in the matter they could be in her corner as well.
