Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Denver was always going to make it barring something odd and unlikely. But I got to admit, after losing that bet over who would finish the season with the better record, it would do my little heart good to see Jan's season end. This is now a real possibility - with the upsets today

If it happens Jan stays home an Denver makes it.![]()

What is interesting to me is that there have been several points through the season when DU has been ranked higher in PWR than St. Cloud, even though St. Cloud was much higher in the WCHA standings. And here we are at the end, and there's a chance that DU will go to the NCAAs and St. Cloud won't.It was interesting for me as a DU fan with very little experience interacting with Husky fans (never been to St. Cloud in my life) to see and hear how cocky they were given their regular season success (or are they always like that?). The Gopher fans around me seem to really detest them. They have a lot of talent and I'm sure it was a fun year to be a SCSU fan but the regular season is not the place to hang your hat. Now their sitting on the bubble--looks like they'll mostly get in but you would think it might serve to humble their fan base up a bit heading into next week. I guess if they do get in, it's be as four and they'll have to face a tough opponent in the first round. My guess would be Lowell or Miami.
At any rate we've had a ton of fun being up here. Nearly 19K in the X tonight for a college hockey game. Makes the NCAA tourney seem like low-level mite affair in some non-hockey state like Florida.
