2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Thank you for the last 13 years of an awesome environment, fantastic hockey, and truly the greatest conference tournament in hockey.

The Final Five will move on, as does the WCHA, but it just won't be the same.

Yes, I really am somber about it.

We all are.

The B1G tourney won't be able to touch this, nor will the other two.

Wow. It was kind of like the Grand Finale, this championship. The Old Dame sure knows how to exit.

And in respect to those who still are WCHA, she lives on.

Hockey and life all will move on. But this takes away a weekend of family an friends, particularly the most quality time I get with my father. For three days.

But, we'll have to find an alternative!

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

I had some beers for you, too. But that's alright. "Jan" took the three most important pieces of conference hardware and Denver got...?
edit: broadmoor is second most important
It's good. :) DU had a really weird up and down season. I didn't really expect them to make the NCAAs, but they have, and I honestly have no idea how they will play next weekend. I hope that they at least win a game, but honestly, it wouldn't be surprising if they get crushed.

That said, I really had fun at the game tonight. I was pulling for CC, which is just beyond weird, but didn't exactly care. I ran into another DU fan, which also surprised me.

Hats off to the Gopher fans who brought the long "B1G Mistake" sign to tonights game. :D

For the UAA guy with the beard to not win dance mania is ridiculous. The people in front of me also thought it was bullcrap.

Was he even at the Saturday game though? I didn't see him in the tailgate lot. He had spent Thursday and Friday there and then saw him at the game.

What an awesome weekend. I'm going to miss this so much.

This weekend almost could not have gone worse for me... and I still had a blast. I ran into a couple former players that couldn't have been nicer, and the almost all the fans I ran into were really cool.

Duper bet me a six pack earlier this year on who would finish higher in the standings between SCSU and Denver. I won the bet and the guy actually dropped of the six pack at the front desk of my hotel. I am sure it was a pain in the rear because I don't think he was staying downtown, but he did it anyway (Duper, that Ten FIDY was heavenly). Denver has been my 2nd favorite team in the conference and this cemented that even further.

Some Wisconsin fans kinda joined into our group at the bar and were super nice, bought us some drinks and even though they were forty were dancing and rapping along to O.P.P. and The Humpty Dance and other 90s rap tunes. So much fun.

I had shown my friends the MeanEGirl/Casey Borer video yesterday and they were laughing their tail off and we saw her at Tom Reid's and they stopped her and asked her about it. I felt kinda bad they bothered her but she was pretty cool about it.

I don't think college hockey fans will be able to take over Minneapolis like they do St. Paul during the Final Five tournament. That is the sad part for me. I also didn't make it to the tailgate because it was cold out and my friends didn't seem that interested. I think the NCHC tournament can be fun too, but it will take some planning to get the fans in the same bars together so it can be the same kind of atmosphere. Make it happen Biddy.

This is a good idea. perhaps I'll plan a place for USCHO fans and others to hang out pre and post game...only problem is my ticket partner Dirty hates loud music.

Did they ever show the girl who won on the big screen before she won?
I don't think so...but I could have missed it. It was like last year when that family of UMD fans won...

And bars. And people. And pretty much everything that occurs after hockey games.

Though if you are going to organize something, why not try to make a profit off of it? Let's buy a Mini Cooper and install a stereo system in it. Then we can turn the heat all the way up, shove 10 people into it so no one can move, make sure three of them smoke, blare terrible music and charge everyone $5 for crappy watered down drinks.

Just don't make me sit in the car or I will kill someone.

I'd be in for this. Minneapolis will be a fun place at least.

I believe that was the group that sat next to me for the games. They were fun all weekend. It was fun bickering back and forth with them during the Friday afternoon game.

There was nothing watered down about the drinks Reid's was pouring. :p

glad you enjoyed the beer. they both come in 4 packs rather than 6ers so I grabbed 1 of each. I'll get to try the 10 fidy when I get home. I think it's pretty cool that you brought me some beer even though you won but we just missed each other. Oh well. I had a great time with family so it worked out.

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

I would like to be at the NCHC tourney, at least for the next couple years. My niece and her friends showed me what nerdy math/science people do in MN and niece went to the championship game with me even though she has no interest in hockey. It was a good time.
