2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Made it to THE tailgate lot on Friday afternoon for the first time ever. I had fun meeting a few of you that I knew of and hadn't officially met as well as catching up with some of you that I already knew. It was a blast and the beer was delicious!!

At the end of the championship game, my buddies and I just sat for a minute and soaked it in. Even though it wasn't our team that was celebrating, we just wanted to take it all in one last time. Knowing that nothing will be able to recreate the atmosphere that the Final Five had is very sad. We will move on, yes, but we will never forget the Final Five.

A couple pics from the tailgate, thanks to dxmnkd and MeanEgirl. The canopy had the homebrews in them, about a dozen in all. The game being played (for those who DON'T know is Beerdarts). beerdarts.net :

Yes, those pics are "family" games with double-tall-cans.

Thanks to Armadillo, we filmed this at the tailgate also. We are "The League" fans, and state of hockey, well, he's so Rafi it's hilarious. For non-fans, a reference vid is also here (both have a bit of language, not bad):

How was volleyball?
Volleyball was LAST weekend. Unfortunately we had family in town on Saturday. That coupled with the fact that we were all kinda depressed after the Gophers loss on Friday and we weren't able to make it back down to the tailgate lot on Saturday. Always fun hanging out with you guys, hopefully we can make it happen even though the Final Five is now a thing of the past for the Nacho and B1G Mistake schools(see: Minnesota Cup).

I'm just glad that I won't have to sit through 1 more Dance Mania after the Saturday night game.

I've still got "Don't Stop the Party" stuck in my head from this weekend.

I have been to every Final "Five" since 1988 and am really, really going to miss it. It was a fantastic way to spend a weekend in March.

Good choice of pics, the famous 3-on-1 double-can beerdarts game. Good times :D

Figures you get a pic of me kicking someone off my cooler so I could grab a beer mid-game there....

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

I believe there are 6-7 current or former USCHO posters in that top pic (hard to tell who is in the background) Most of them don't post much or at all anymore. I only see three that post regularly here now. I think the rest are regulars on GPL.

(I was outside that picture, playing eucre with MEg, Almington, Dude Love and someone in a Michigan jersey.

I see: The Darkness, Biddco, StateOfHockey (I think it is...) and myself in that top pic, and Brenthoven is in the bottom one. Most of the rest are GPLers, but I don't know that they post here.

Boosh and DX are in the top one too. And I think a couple of the GPLers have accounts and post very rarely. I know I've seen Dillo post around here.

Are you sure? I don't see myself in the first one.

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

The WCHA will be fine. Both the old and new teams are quality programs.

I hope the WCHA reconsiders qualifying only eight of ten teams for its tournament in Grand Rapids next year. The 10 team play-in format has always been a fun excuse to arrive in time for a Thursday evening play-in game, two semifinals on Friday, and some shopping prior to the championship game Saturday evening.

The New WCHA will be especially good for Bemidji, Minnesota State, and Michigan Tech, who will do well in the standings and pick up pairwise points for any non-conference games with former WCHA teams. Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan will be the losers with a weaker schedule and less attendance as compared to before; a just result in my opinion.

The playoff format change is perhaps the best argument for why the NCHC was formed in response to Wisconsin and Minnesota jumping ship.

Go Fighting Sioux!

Nonsense. They didn't know what that playoff format was going to be when they panicked and started an unnecessary new league. North Dakota envisioned Notre Dame coming with them and having a more "prestigious" conference. It will damage college hockey in the long run.
