2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Good choice of pics, the famous 3-on-1 double-can beerdarts game. Good times :D

Figures you get a pic of me kicking someone off my cooler so I could grab a beer mid-game there....

And if everyone looks closely, 2 of the 3 players have some serious beers in front of them:

Young's Double Chocolate Stout, and Guinness. That's hardcore for that kind of game.

Nonsense. They didn't know what that playoff format was going to be when they panicked and started an unnecessary new league. North Dakota envisioned Notre Dame coming with them and having a more "prestigious" conference. It will damage college hockey in the long run.
North Dakota lost their voting block with Minnesota and Wisco leaving. That's why they left

Those are tough beers to slam fast.

That's a new one

Not really. At the time of the NCHC's formation, I frequently read that as part of the reason. I'm not in the know, so I obviously don't know if it's valid, but it's certainly been speculated upon.

It's just a tired joke, is all. WI went all B1G crap, and MN was forced to join, so DU/UND went "We're big boys too!" and formed their own conference. It wasn't about voting, it was about being "important" enough to be able to start another conference because they rule.

You guys can keep repeating that all you want, but it doesn't make it true.

It was a panic. Plain and simple.

Uhhhh... I thought the BTHC started when a 6th conference member added D-1 hockey. Once PSU got in the game, the conference was inevitable, whether Wisconsin was enthusiastic about it or not.

I guess we can loathe Alvarez for whistling through the graveyard, but either way, you can't fight city hall.

The B1G has built a financial empire around their name and member schools and they will continue to protect it in the years to come. This will mean getting their umbrella over everything that they can. There's too much money and power involved in the whole, to let anything slide individually - whether it be a school or a sport.

Yes, the bylaws. They had something to do with it, too.
