2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

The best part about last night's game was when all the UND fans started cheering when the puck hit the outside of the net. I didn't even flinch and 10,000 people start screaming.

Once the 2pm game starts today think a guy could grab a ticket for cheap?

I have my ticket for tonight but was going to try and hit the early game, if not then it's bar time. win win

I wish the Tigers good luck tonight (got to root for the 'dogs), but this season they lost three of four games to ECAC opponents, two of three losses were to second division ECAC teams. Maybe conference realignment will improve the competitive standing of western teams.

I had a good view of it on that end of the ice so I can understand why the people on the other end cheered, but I figured it would subside after they saw it hit the boards. Nope, they **** near started celebrating!

I was at the end where folks thought it went in. I too did not flinch. Goalies were the difference last night. Regardless I'm having a blast fothis being my first final five. Wanted to see Sioux/Gophs tonight but wasn't in the cards. Should be 2 good ones today.

Just the matchup that everyone was hoping for tomorrow!

Who saw this?

Two teams playing for one berth though. Neither one likely to make it if they lose.

Both teams' NCAA tourney begins tomorrow.

What do you mean? Who didn't see it coming? :)

Well yes. That is until you guys lose. I'm thinking Friday night in front of a packed house. Should be glorious. :)

Perfect. We have some old business from early in the year to settle. Can't wait to see the kitties on Saturday night.

Jimmy Carter's gonna beat Gerry Ford just as sure as Bucky is going to face CC in the last real WCHA final.

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but CC has been on a weird, historical run.

CC has never won the Broadmoor Trophy, despite the fact that the Trophy is named after CC's old arena.

The Broadmoor has been awarded since 1982 (from '82-84 to the Regular Season Champion, from '85-present to WCHA Tournament Champion). The following schools have won the most Broadmoor Titles:

1. North Dakota - 8 Titles
2. Minnesota - 7 Titles
3. Denver - 5 Titles
4. Wisconsin - 4 Titles

With a win tomorrow night, CC will have dispatched the four schools that have won the most Broadmoor Titles (also the four schools that have won the most WCHA Tournament Titles).

It would also be a fitting end for the Broadmoor to finally go back to its "home."

I agree. Sconny should just forfeit and let CC take the trophy home where it belongs.

Six teams go to Mpls, four of which are already in the tournament. The final is between the two that aren't. Good stuff. Desperation can do wonders. The only way it could be a more fitting fight for the Broadmoor in this last year of the "old" WCHA is if it were CC and Tech.

Agreed. CC and Bucky leave it all on the ice to get to the final. Good stuff. I think the WCHA should get permission to take away AH's autobid and let both CC and Bucky in
(to get seven in the tourney) :-)

Re: 2013 WCHA Final Five: end of hockey's great tournament

It was interesting for me as a DU fan with very little experience interacting with Husky fans (never been to St. Cloud in my life) to see and hear how cocky they were given their regular season success (or are they always like that?). The Gopher fans around me seem to really detest them. They have a lot of talent and I'm sure it was a fun year to be a SCSU fan but the regular season is not the place to hang your hat. Now their sitting on the bubble--looks like they'll mostly get in but you would think it might serve to humble their fan base up a bit heading into next week. I guess if they do get in, it's be as four and they'll have to face a tough opponent in the first round. My guess would be Lowell or Miami.

At any rate we've had a ton of fun being up here. Nearly 19K in the X tonight for a college hockey game. Makes the NCAA tourney seem like low-level mite affair in some non-hockey state like Florida.
