Yes - 3 pool C bids next season and 1 pool B - The pool B bid coming from the dissolved NCHA's pool A.

Pool A decreases to 7 with the disappearance of the NCHA. There will be 11 teams in Pool B (5 WIAC and 6 ECAC W), so there will be one Pool B bid. 7 in Pool A, 1 in Pool B - leaves 3 for Pool C.

Look, I'm not saying Neumann doesn't belong-I haven't seen them play. And having had the opportunity to go to Lake Placid in 2008 and meet and be with those great fans out east (took me awhile to get used to the horns and such from Plattsburgh but I did) and also seeing some of those fans and their teams at Ridder arena in 2010 I will tell you there is great hockey out east.

But you do really need to stop. The tentacles of the NCAA are nowhere near numerous enough or big enough to even think about what you are proposing--they are incapable of and should not be involved in micromanaging the balancing of conferences. And unless something has changed very recently, I do believe that the newly created WIAC in the west, which does not have 7 teams either, is in the same boat as the ECAC-W beginning next season.

What's to stop? This is a blog and we are all speculating hacks.

Your argument about D1 is silly, D3 does not have the TV markets to consider or any other comparison to D1 basketball, football, or hockey. NCAA makes their rules and could just as easily implement any kind of change to support healthy collegiate atheltic competition for schools that are putting forth the expense to field teams. Will they? probably not, but dont be so arrogant to state things as fact that you have no way of backing up. What you state as fact about the NCAAs motivation and reach is pure speculation and babble.

Could the NC$$ decide they are going to micromanage who is in which league? Sure, theoretically they could. You win, d3n. Not sure how long you've been hanging around college athletics, but what a bunch of people who have been college sports fans for decades (not merely years) is that the likelihood of that happening is so small as to be infinitesimal. As such, nobody believes it is going to happen. Proof? As someone else mentioned, look at what has been going on in DI mens hockey.

Sorry I have a question. Several of you are far smarter about this than me and this is probably a really dumb question but: Am I understanding that it is possible that a conference could get both a pool B and a pool C?

To elaborate, next year, for example, UWEC could get the Pool A, and UW-Stevens Point (or another WIAC school) could also be worthy of a Pool C.

Or substitute two ECAC-W schools...

And a it is possible that a conference could get both a pool A and a pool C, but it is not possible for a conference could get both a pool A and a pool B.

It's even possible for a conference to get a Pool B and 2 Pool C's :)

What you need to stop is thinking that the NC$$ has any desire or ability to alter conference alignment. Talk to the school presidents, and ADs...they're the people in power over conference affiliation. If the NCAA tried sticking their nose in, there'd be 5hit thrown everywhere, especially from the likes of the NESCAC presidents if, say, you decided that Hamilton should be in the ECAC-West. They'd probably all quit NCAA sports, they're that fickle.

What you need to do is approach the ADs at Neumann, Hobart, Utica, Manville, Elmira, and Naz and tell them to get another team. While you're chatting with them, ask Neumann to stop losing 7.5 times, then they'll get a bid.
