2013 "I was screwed by the NCAA" thread...

Re: 2013 "I was screwed by the NCAA" thread...

Thanks for the history lesson. I certainly don't have much faith in seeing any improvments, primarily because of the broader (all or nothing) impact to athletic programs at each school. Although, even your description eludes to the fact that the NCAA is the governing body and does implement rules at some levels, including these crazy Pool A,B,C rules. The comparison to D1 is a stretch at best.

What comparison?

My history lesson includes ALL of college athletics. It is ALL run by the presidents of the schools, not by the NCAA. You seem to continue to have an issue with that concept.

Re: 2013 "I was screwed by the NCAA" thread...

Once the ECAC-West gets to 7 teams, I'm sure they will get a Pool A and the 2 Pool C's :p

Why would the almighty ECAC West need the AQ Pool A and two Pool C bids? I thought certain people had already crowned themselves as National Champions. All the the West needs to do is determine if the National Championship should go the conference league season champion or the conference playoff champion. The rest of the Div III will just play for second place. :D

Re: 2013 "I was screwed by the NCAA" thread...

The annual argument is here, and it's sounding more and more like a waste of time to discuss it.

It's all about the AQ-situation in D-3, and it always has been... At least 2 unworthy teams have been awarded berths this year (maybe more), and that's why Hobart is staying home. The field is far too small to award AQs to mediocre teams, clearly, if the NCAA aspires to be "fair".

(Some posters here state that a true champion must win it's silly little conference-tournament to validate it's entire season, then they change their tune when that doesn't happen... That's not worth mentioning, really, but I couldn't help myself.)

If the field was chosen on merit alone, and in some equitable manner, UMD and Wentworth would be teeing them up about now, and Hobart would be practicing for an upcoming game... Platty, Babson, Bowdoin and Neumann would've been the finalists for the last few berths, IMO.

In my opinion Neumann would have been more deserving than Hobart (Utica too, for that matter), but not more deserving than UMD or Wentworth as they won their leagues respective AQ's. Regardless of how you personally feel the ECAC-NE or MASAC are as conferences.

+1 (Better hang on you used the Utica word in a bad way)

I know, I know. It's just that with the exception of Neumann in 2009, the current ECAC-W teams have a rich history of doing little more than absolutely nothing in the National Tournament.

For the record, as a SNC alum, I would have been fine had SNC lost the NCHA playoff championship and been left out of the tournament in favor of a school that was able to settle matters on the ice in their respective conference tournament (Neumann.)

Perhaps it is because ECAC-W is always sending some mathematical conference winner, rather than the actual conference champion, who might be having a better season at that point...

Although you can't really trash a Conference with 3-4 of 6 teams always in the top 15.

As a Norwich fan I hope we meet again on March 16 Norwich VS SNC are always great games!

The ECAC-W dont send any teams inless the NCAA selects them.

As a hockey fan, that National Championship game in Lake Placid is the best hockey game I've ever seen in person. It was an honor to have worked that game.

Totally agree. It was even better to see it as somebody with a rooting interest in the winning team, and knowing some of the players. The brackets are aligned for another one, so hopefully neither team gets derailed along the way!

I would have to say that it's only a few fans of just one team that feels that way :p;)

Once again your ignorance is showing. Except for the last four (?) years or so, the ECAC West has always sent their conference champions. And they have done absolutely squat in the national tournament until Neumann came along.

Makes me think the conference has been extremely overrated for the past two decades....
