2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

So I went on Friday and I have to say it was amazing.

Beautiful course and surreal to be at one of these.

Camped out on 3 from noon till 3:00 and then did 17 after a quick lunch/dinner break. Both were par 3s which were fun coz we were at the green and could see their drives and then the close out of the hole.

Got to see Bubba, Tiger, Fowler, Rose, Johnson, Els, Daley (!!! although not his throw), Kuchar, etc, etc, etc...

As much as people seem to hate on Tiger these days (myself included - although I was NEVER a fan), there was a different buzz when he rolled through and I found myself cheering enthusiastically for him when he made birdie right in front of me. Then he went onto 4 and it all fell apart...

Same buzz with Daley. Even though many were quick with their under the breath taunts, everyone was pulling for him. Sweet pants btw!

I need to do this again and the US Open is right down the Interstate in Hartford next year. Count me in!!!

Oh yeah...

And had to run for our lives at the end coz of the storms. Was about 1000 yards to the car and sand was blowing in our eyes, beer cans and other stuff was blowing past us, lightning was hitting the ground and cars were trying to leave the lot. Saw an outhouse go over.

All this and the wife has a broken toe right now.

She told me to go on and she'd get there, but heroically, I stayed with her. :D

Then when I got in the car, the wind slammed the door shut on my ankle... OUCH!!!

And guess where the two cars (that we saw) were from who were cutting people off and being dooshy?

Starts with an I and ends with an S.

Hartford....what a crap town. :p (it's where bbdl got married)

I thought that was Erin Hills in 2017? Next year, too?

Doh!

It is 2017.

Guess I'll have to wait a bit longer.

bbdl played that course before his wedding, IIRC par-ed the 18th. Played the course, so he could laugh at whoever did worse than him on that course/holes. :)

And I plan on upgrading my EA Golf game that year, to play that course. :)

Going to be a great sunday of golf at Whistling Straits. Hoping for a playoff between Spieth and Day although I wouldn't be surprised if Rose and Kaymer are there too.

WS looks like an amazing course....too bad about the long suffering Mrs. Gurt. ;)
I've been able to attend at least one day at each of the three recent events at Hazeltine....it really is amazing to see pros play but I'm not sure I have interest trying to see the Ryder Cup, too many spectators and too few groups.

Speaking of storms, at the '91 Open my grandpa & I were way to close to the lightning strike, probably within 50-60 yards. When it started to rain we stood under a tree then gramps years of wisdom took over and we moved to a lower area.

Scary stuff but the course emptied after that so the viewing was fantastic. Highlight was on 16 and Fuzzy wanders over to the stream that runs along the edge to sneak a heater while he waited and waited and waited and waited for Langer to line of a shot. Several minutes into his wait he says kinda under his breath, "Is this {bleeping} nazi ever going to hit the ball. :D

5 over after 4 holes today and he is now 2 under for the day.

Day is in complete control. I would be shocked if doesn't win this thing.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

A well earned win for Day. He and Spieth are both class acts.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

Here's a dumb question:

So, it's my understanding that in a golf tourney, the better you do, the later in the day you start on the following day...

I can see the "pro" argument of this. You get to see how others play the course and such, how the course is running, etc. But I'm wondering about the "anti" arguments? Weather, sun position, etc.

Is it that big of a difference where course stuff outweighs weather?

Would it be completely crazy to allow whoever shot the best the day before choose their tee time (from a list of preset times), due to their preferences?

Two letters - TV.

Two letters - TV.

I think they've been doing that long before TV came around. The theory is, they want the leaders to be the last ones on the course.

I also know that if you've got an early tee time on Thursday, you're going late on Friday, and vice-versa. Now, TV does have a bit to do with that.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

There's no other way to do it.

You want everyone (TV audience & gallery) hanging around until the end.

You also don't want a bunch of guys still on the course with no hope of winning.

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

The TV/gallery does bring up an interesting angle. I'm just thinking....weather usually acts up later in the day, rather than earlier. How many 8am tornadoes (yes, an exaggeration on my part) do you see? Wind is obviously HUGE in the game....

Re: 2013 Golf Season - Does it leave you scratching?

If I'm in the country I will attend the Ryder no question. Once in a lifetime event and some of the most electric golf you can find.
