2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

The committee doesn't need such a perfect storm in order to torment us. If UND is in the NCAA field and not a host, they'll be sent to Minneapolis to make the committee's task easier. So if Minnesota stays at #1, they will play one of the most dangerous teams in the field that will be undervalued by the rankings because of having been shorthanded for much of the year. Meanwhile, a team like BC that took the first half of the season off will get a matchup like Harvard that has tried hard but is getting worn down and really doesn't have the horses come tournament time. If there is justice in the world, BC will have to go to Madison and earn their way to the FF. Shared pain. ;)
:D I like the injustice! haha

Eventually it will turn and all the strong teams will be out east and you'll be stuck playing each other. I'm not sure I'll live long enough to see it, though. :(

History wise the East ruled the roost for many more years than the West has.

As a matter of fact, teams in the west should thank the pioneer and the early glory teams from the east to show them the way. :D (actually I mean that seriously, Teams like Brown, UNH, Providence, Cornell and Colby were the teams that started it all back in the 70's and in one case the 60's. )

Sigh. Yes, the East was much better during the period when the West did not exist. I would hope you can rule a roost if you're the only bird in it. The East was able to extend that dominance through the first two seasons of fledgling western teams. Minnesota was in its first two years of varsity competition when UNH and Harvard won national titles; St. Cloud was technically varsity, but I don't know that it had more than a handful of scholarships, if that. The other schools like UMD and MSU were still club, I believe. But given the PairWise focus of this thread, is any of that really relevant?

The reaction was based on your "Lifetime" comment. I'm also a firm believer of recognizing those that have come before that made things that happen today possible.

Oversensitive to jokes often?

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

Am I correct in my observation that if QU passes ND in RPI, that 8th place would go to Mercyhurst and 9th to BU?

If nothing else changed . . . maybe. The committee might decide that the RPI gap is large enough to put Quinnipiac ahead. And the "if nothing else changes" part is important because most of the ways that QU could improve its RPI involve also improving its record vs. TUC and/or its record vs. common opponents of itself and the other two.

Too many variables, specially considering the close RPI numbers within the clusters of teams.
You have a clear 1, a clear 2, a grouping at 3-5, a grouping at 6-8t(1st), a grouping at 8t(2nd-3rd)-11 and a clear separation between 11 and 12+. See table below with the separation lines drawn in.

For Quinny to move up they have to do well vs Clarkson and Cornell in their remaining games and/or do well in the ECAC playoffs. The way it stands now, they will have 3 or 4 games left vs Top 10 opponents, two in the regular season and up to two in the ECAC playoffs. If they go 3-1 in those games, they will most likely be in the picture. Going 2-2 in those might not be enough. Off course they could go 0-2 in those two Reg Season games and then run the table in the ECAC playoffs to make it via the autobid.

Too many variables
I know things can change but I like looking at each week as a case study, in a "if the season ended today" kind of way. There's a similar thread on the men's forum. I realize that everything is going to change in the coming weeks.

Well i the season ended today you have a three way tie for the last spot. That would lead to a never ending discussion on who gets in. :D.
(If it were up to me, and they go by this ranking, I would give the 8th spot to UND, not to MU or BU, mostly based on SOS. Agree with the top 8 teams in the current pairwise, although not in the same order.).

:D Well if the season ended today there would be very little debate as to who that 8th team would be -- as it stands right now, it's definitely North Dakota.

Much to the chagrin of our WCHA friends, as it could lead to the 6th meeting of the season between UND and Minny.

ND has 2 wins and a tie against the top 2 ranked teams in 8 games(5-7-2 against all TUCs)....tough way to get into the tourney with all those games against the top 2.
