2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

Just the one reason I guess...saving on travel expense. I agree with ARM's earlier observation that going forward, for that to be the standard year after year gets tired and in fact does diminish the tournament.

So, maybe on even years they suck it up and pay the freight for 8 or whatever to travel and avoid an inter-conference match-up. ;)

Did the board administrators just edit out the word "skate?" That's pretty ironic for this board. Does that mean they will similarly edit *****79's handle?

Good question, Watson. To arrive at the truth we need to investigate further. ;)

Something along the lines of:

No need to investigate. I was cheap long before I chose the handle. Ask any of my ex girlfriends. :)

If they do, I'll take it all the way to the Supreme Court.

Question about Pairwise. BU lost to Vermont twice this weekend. Vermont is a second division team. Harvard beat BU earlier this season when the Terriers were ranked 7th or 8th in the country (not sure). Do these two losses hurt Harvard in any way going forward? Or does the win over Cornell count for more and ensure they will remain in the hunt for one of the top four seeds?

BU losing to Vermont hurts in RPI in that there is less value in Harvard's win over the Terriers, but since Harvard only played BU once, it isn't a big factor. Also, if BU continues to lose and is no longer a Team Under Consideration, then Harvard loses a win in that category. But for a team in the top four, if it keeps winning, it will almost always stay there. The question becomes how much margin for error does Harvard have, how many losses can it afford and still be in the top four, and that's where the watering down of a quality win can hurt a bit. I don't expect the teams around Harvard to run the table either, so I like Harvard's chances unless it gets passed by teams like BC and Clarkson. Because it can have a shot on the ice against those teams if it keeps winning, that is something Harvard can control to an extent.

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

1) Minnesota
2) Wisconsin
3) Harvard
4) Cornell
5) Clarkson
6) Robert Morris
7) North Dakota
8) Boston College

#7 ND @ #1 UM
#6 RMU @ #2 UW
#8 BC @ #3 HU
#5 ClU @ #4 CoU

I'm trying to look at this from an unbiased perspective even though BC @ HU is what I really want for my team, that's how I think it shakes out. Anyone disagree?

FWIW I think with 2 games vs. UM next week, and then Duluth, without several top scorers, I think ND is going to drop to 8th next week anyway. At that point swapping 6 for 7 to get rid of a flight is a no brainer.

Not arguing, just asking: Robert Morris to Wisconsin is not a flight?

It is, but you eliminate one flight by sending them to Madison, since they'd fly either way, and only making BC take the Red Line.

Re: 2013-2014 Women's D-I PairWise Contentions and Affirmations

The other possibility is to swap Clarkson and RMU. Gives one more flight but no intra conference matchups. Or can Robert Morris bus to Cornell?

I suspect the RMU to Cornell trip would be via a Bus. Cornell to Erie a few years ago was a Bus.

Isn't everything in New England a bus? The states are so little there. :D

All of them north and east of Ohio! ;)
That's why it is safer to just call them all "East" and then they can't complain. Sort of like when they call teams from Pennsylvania part of the "West", at least until they win something, and then they'll consider them to be "East". :p
