Re: 2013, '14, '15 Frozen Four Sites

Too funny. This reminds me of the Boise State fans who get ticked off when people rag on their bowl game as an awful destination and they cite the fact that they have an Applebee's in town when people say there's nothing to do there.

Oooooh, bars and restaurants! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Amen. I must have missed all those people vacationing in Omaha every year. That must be some Applebee's. :D

Re: 2013, '14, '15 Frozen Four Sites

What the F are you talking about? Yes I've been to these places and to be kind, they suck azz. Forgive me if I can think of far better places to hold the event. Maybe if your version of excitement is going to a generic restaurant and then hitting a market, then great, but for me - no thanks.

You have no clue what you are talking about. In addition to the wonderful eateries in downtown Omaha you can always make a visit to Jimmy Joe Bob's Museum of Corn. Talk about hours of excitement...

The Frozen Four offers me a chance to celebrate the end of winter. I don't care where it's played, I'm going to have fun. :D

But then again, I believe that if you're not having fun you have no one to blame but yourself.

... There's plenty to do in Downtown Pittsburgh as well, just a couple blocks from the new arena.

no. i'm from there and the god lord willing will spend only 11 hrs there for xmas in a couple days. pittsburgh is a great neighborhood city and you really need wheels. you can do the the south side. shadyside. the strip district is somewhat near downtown. oakland is young and full of students. outside the city proper then are places to go in bridgeville, mt lebanon, greentree carnegie, and all the other places where people live (nobody really lives downtown).

but if you can get around there are a lot of neat things to do and see other than sit in a bar (not that there is anything wrong with that :p )

The bottom line is you can have fun, find something interesting to see, great places to eat and drink and have a little fun anywhere you go. Whether you hold the tournament in Pittsburgh, Detroit, Trenton or Tuscaloosa, there are things to see and do if you look beyond the immediate path between your hotel and the arena. I've got plenty of years in the hockey biz, both college and minor pro and have found good times and good people from Tupelo to Toledo, Fairbanks to Florida. Sometimes you just have to make it happen, instead of waiting for it to happen!

The bottom line is you completely made up a story about Pittsburgh's downtown that even a person from there disputed.

Any truth to the rumours that the NCAA is favoring a bid sponsored by Mexicana Airlines and Universidad Nacional Autonoma de México to lay down an ice sheet at Estadio Azteca? Word has it they are waiting to see how Detroit goes this year.

I am more than willing to help you spread this rumor.

Pittsburgh's downtown is lame. It's not where you hang out. You hang out in Shadyside, Squirrel Hill and Oakland. Solid zoo, if the Pirates are home see the best ballpark in the world.

Tour Heinze Field. The science museum is pretty cool as is the Carnegie Museums in Oakland.

Been there for Penguins game, been there for Pirates. Had a good time before and after both in the area between the ball park and the arena.

I liked the field's location, but the stadium was no great shakes. The Carnegie Museums were a riot. I went there this year, and I'm touring the sculpture room. All of a sudden I come across Winged Victory and Venus De Milo, which I could have swore were in the Louvre the last time I was there. Turns out the entire exhibit is recreations from around 1900. That's a little lame.

However, I did watch a film in the art museum where some guy put wild animals in a motel room and filmed what they did. That was pretty much the highlight of my four days in the city, although Oakland wasn't a bad place. :D

According to the 1st article April 15th is the day we find out? Have they made finalist selections? I haven't seen anything about it.

Pittsburgh:

Buffalo:

For the record, I'm a fan of San Antonio, San Jose or Nashville for the next "non-traditional" or "non-northern" Frozen Four but would be in favor of waiting until 2016 to do another non-traditional market. (so the next round of bids, not this time) Let's make sure Tampa in 2012 works before trying it again.

Re: 2013, '14, '15 Frozen Four Sites

Judging from the building's arena football set-up, there'd likely be about 5,000 or 6,000 seats behind the end boards with extremely poor sightlines.
Is the arena football setup the same size as a rink? The capacity for arena football is only 16,500. If that is the same for hockey, it is way too small, I doubt that the NCAA would even consider it. dggoddard said earlier that hockey capacity was 18,000 but I can't find anywhere that says what hockey capacity would be. New Orleans would be a fun place to have a Frozen 4.....

Re: 2013, '14, '15 Frozen Four Sites

I think it's almost a slam dunk that Pittsburgh will be one of the cities. New arena coming along with the success of Robert Morris seems like a perfect match.

And despite what some people have said about Pittsburgh not being a good choice, I think they have to give it a try. After all, it can't be worse than Detroit.

If "poor sightlines" are an issue then I guess Ford Field slipped through the cracks.
