You lost me at this line.

Barely better than Detroit.

These videos should end the Cleveland thought...

Re: 2013, '14, '15 Frozen Four Sites

Places I would like to see host the Frozen Four:
Pittsburgh
New York
Boston
Chicago
Milwaukee
Philadelphia

Replace Philly with Denver and I'd agree. NY, Boston, and Philly are all very close to eachother, so I doubt they'd have all three in the same set of FFs without most teams from the west. I'd go with:

Boston
Denver
Milwaukee
Pittsburgh
Chicago
San Jose

No thanks to Buffalo, St Louis, or Philly.

I never said that I wanted that to be the next 6 years...just 6 places I'd like to see it. I know its been in Milwaukee before but I couldn't make it. I think Denver and St Louis are worthy of getting another one. DC still has plenty of stuff I wouldn't mind seeing again. I honestly don't see the Frozen Four ever being in New York.

Denver definitely, but St. Louis not so much. Milwaukee and Boston are mandatory (for me anyways). If we're doing new cities:

NYC
San Jose
Chicago

Problem with NYC is if you're going to do it there, it needs to be done at MSG, and with all of the NCAA logo rules and all of that, they might run into some problems since I have trouble believing MSG would allow the NCAA to cover all MSG logos in view of a TV camera. Only other option is Newark, but that'd just be stupid, may as well put it in Cleveland.

If you want to see plenty of stuff in DC, they do allow visitors at other times of the year. ;)

my favorite sites have been:
Buffalo
St. Paul
Boston
Denver
Providence :(
and I like to try non-traditional places once in awhile, like Anaheim or Tampa.

I prefer cities that actually know the Frozen Four is there, or places I wouldn't necessarily visit otherwise, but still have something to do on the off-day. Walkable is definitely a plus.

Pittsburgh and Chicago would be good sites.

What about Dallas? Phoenix? Haven't been to either, just throwing names out. Not sure what minor league teams have arenas big enough.

please do not return to Albany. ever.

p.s. I should probably note I have never NOT had fun at FF. even in Albany. :)

I guess I'm partial to St Louis because I have friends down there and always have a great time. St. Louis was probably the most epic road trip I have ever been on. Between Barry Melrose, Amo Bessone, Jeff Sauer, the Refs, Strippers, Mel, Dave Fischer...it was AWESOME

We were about to have words if you didn't clear this up.

Albany has gotten to be more fun in the last 10 years but I agree, it should never come back here.

St. Louis will be the home of the West Regional (hosted by the CCHA) next season.

And Chicago (United Center) would make an absolute crazy venue. But it would take a school like UofI to host it, and I think they would rather host the Bouncyball tourney first. :( Then again, there is NOTHING around the UC, and it's a bit of a hike to the good stuff North of the Loop. Nearest EL stop is a six block walk through a Detroit-esque part of town.

Notre Dame could work with the United Center to host...I don't think that's the problem. Also the Detroit-esque part of chicago you speak of could certainly be taken care of with some added PD to the area and traveling in groups to and from the arena.

Re: 2013, '14, '15 Frozen Four Sites

IMO, non-taditional cities should be added every 5 to 10 years into the mix. It is good for the college game and it might help the game grow.

HELLO, I think you're neglecting the very classy combo Taco Bell/Pizza Hut by the UC!!!! ;) (that'd be my only beef with Chicago.. the arena is not in a very walkable area.. but it wouldn't be too hard to find hotels in areas with stuff to do).

I'm not saying it's not do-able, just that it likely has some of the same "What do we do before/after" the games that some of the current venues have (Detroit, etc.)

I think the only roadblock would be the Blackhawks, I don't know if they'd be willing to give up a prime weekend date so close to the end of the NHL season. Depends on how the 'Hawks are looking in five years though. :D

A joint Notre Dame / Wisconsin effort might really help the ball rolling, but Wisco wouldn't considering they have the Kohl Center, Resch Center, and Bradley Center all closer and easier to negotiate with.

(I'd love to see it in Rosemont, but there is absolutely nothing to do in Rosemont, and it's a 20 minute drive / 30 minute EL ride into the Loop, only benefit is O'Hare is in spitting distance from the arena.)

If it were to be in Texas, I'd recommend Houston as the best combination of arena (the Toyota Center is a modern arena designed to have good hockey sight lines even though the hockey tenant is only AHL) and tourist-type stuff to do. Houston proper has a nice museum district, the San Jacinto battleground, and the Johnson Space Center, Galveston is only an hour or so away, and San Antonio is only about three and a half hours so very doable as an off-day road trip.

(San Antonio would be a better host as a city, but the arena situation is unacceptable for me; you're looking at either a basketball-specific building with a rink shoehorned in, or another big indoor football stadium.)

I know that San Antonio has been tossed around in this thread. What arena in San Antonio could host this? Is there one big enough? Does the Alamodome have ice-making capabilities? If the arena situation is good there, I wouldn't mind that trip as a non-traditional frozen 4.

edit: you answered my question in your edit :p

AT&T Center wouldn't be completely horrible, but that giant Minnesota Twins baggy that they put up for Rampage games looks annoying on TV (I can only imagine how bad it is inside the arena).

13.5 for Hockey isn't as large as some of the prior venues (17+ seems to be the average arena size lately), so there definitely would be rejections of ticket applicants.

Houston (Aero's arena Toyota Center) would probably be a better fit.
