Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

The only thing missing is "green" modifying "teeth."

Oh I don't know. I grew up in NoDak, and during those early years when I had teeth I don't remember coloring them.

Still got butthurt, do ya Bunky? Jeb Bush should have gotten a refund for his vaunted "voter suppression" efforts in Florida, given that the black turnout was up 60% from '96!

Non sequitor alert: what do current GOP efforts on voter ID have to do with media recounts in Florida a dozen years ago?

Everything. It's all the same wheel house.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

Have to say I agree with the earlier posts that I can't wait until this is over.

Today between my wife and I we received 7 pieces of mail each claiming the other candidate is the devil. Then two robocalls and one in person call from someone who swore to me up and down that Richard Tisei would put an end to Obama's goal of destroying America.... I told him that his call alone might make me change my mind and vote for Tierney.

I think I'm going to start writing "return to sender" on the mail pieces and putting them back in the mailbox.

This all is only for the senate and congressional election.. no mention of Obama/Romney. I can't imagine what it is like living in a swing state.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

Sorry, Charlie. Gore did not win Florida. Not legally. Not based on his highly selective "recounts" and not even based on any of the various media "recount" scenarios, but one. The scenario where "overvotes" were tabulated. It doesn't take an expert on these matters to realize you only get one vote for President.

Gore's strategy of contesting Florida at the end was sound. However, he most assuredly did not win Florida.

C'mon Muhammad, certainly you should have known I was messing around :p:D:D

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

No one word posts...I'm trying to stretch my thread until election day.

Give Gurt an exception on that one. "Tundrabillies" is probably the most elegant post this thread or its predecessors have seen in a week.

The big issue in Maryland is not the presidential or congressional elections or even the gay marriage vote, but should they expand casino gambling? Over $60 million has poured into the state to sway my vote. I like the influx - but how come I don't see any of it??

I was thinking more along the lines of fungus.

because "gambling" is an oxymoron and you are not a moron?

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

Okay, I've remained silent so far on the Benghazi controversy. Here's my take:

> there is no "conspiracy", and only a "cover-up" to the extent that BHO has been naive.
> Blaming "the video" was a bad idea: it insulted our Libyan allies: notice that there WERE spontaneous pro-USA demonstrations in Libya on Sept 12.
> Blaming the video was a really bad idea: it encouraged incremental additional "protests" that would otherwise have not occurrred.
> it exposed the superficiality and hubris that underlies the thinking of our currrent administration:
* when Osama took out the twin towers, he expected us to fold
* instead, we sought revenge / justice
* when we took out Osama, how did we expect them to react: would they fold, or would they seek revenge?
* do I need to say anything more on this point, really???
> I do not think there is any deliberate conspiracy or coverup
> I do think there is ample incomptence on parade
> it seems clear that the embassy personnel recognized they were at risk and requested assistance
> it appears as if those requests were "lost in translation"
> it seems as if the current administration is being less than candid in their responses so far
