Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

He didn't outright say it but up until the guy yelled yea to the should he die question and Paul realized that he just opened up a huge can of worms did he backtrack into the usual conservative spiel about how people will just take care of it and gov't shouldn't be involved..
Sounds like a Glenn Beck argument, play a clip that suits your purpose and then tell everyone what he meant.

Well you're wrong twice. Nobody is saying Glenn Beck raped and murdered a young girl in 1990. We are just saying that it is possible that Glenn Beck raped and murdered a young girl in 1990.

FACT: Young girls were raped and murdered in 1990.
FACT: Glenn Beck was around in 1990.
FACT: Glenn Beck has never acknowledged or denied that he raped and murdered a young girl in 1990.
FACT: Glenn Beck has not released a long form police report that says he didn't rape and murder a young girl in 1990.

Mr. Beck's silence on this matter is deafening.

That is a Glenn Beck argument.

You're missing a tenuous connection to Nazis and/or Hitler. ;)

Perhaps the broader question is philosophical i.e. Should the hypothetical man's outcome be predictable? In other words, should his result be under the control of society at large or the federal government specifically? Rather than ask who's going to pay his bills, the moderator should've asked Paul whether it's any of the government's business if the man has to go bankrupt paying his bills, or should they pass laws that prevent it by requiring insurance, etc.
The focus was too narrow. There's a good argument to be made for limiting the scope of power of the federal government, without digging up misleading hypotheticals about what happens to people who then avoid the benefits and restrictions of the opposite overreach.

Here's an interesting list to ponder as we head into election season.

America's poorest states.

24/7 Wall St. reviewed census data from all 50 states on median income, poverty rates, unemployment, and lack of health insurance. We then identified the ten states that have the lowest median income.

1. Mississippi
2. Arkansas
3. Tennessee
4. West Virginia
5. Louisiana
6. Montana
7. South Carolina
8. Kentucky
9. Alabama
10. North Carolina

Gee, what do ALL those states have in common, I wonder?

If that were the case, West Virginia, Kentucky and Montana would be replaced by Texas, Florida and Virginia. :p

I would say college football tradition (Montana is a I-AA powerhouse) but North Carolina's presence on the list negates that. What these states have in common is that without the New Deal, they'd still be living as if they were on Gilligan's Isle.. "no phone, no lights, no motor car." They might have those fancy horseless carriages, but they'd be driving them on dirt roads. I'd hate to live in those southern states without AC.

It is my firm belief that all politicians are worthless pieces of scum and that anyone who actually believes that they care for us is really smoking some good stuff!

It is my firm belief that all politicians are a representative sample of the electorate.

So, same thing.

Governor Perry Ponzi has hurt himself with independents.

The same poll shows that 32 percent of independents said they are less likely to vote for Perry because of his Social Security remarks, with just 12 percent saying it makes them more likely.

The populace doesn't like to hear truth about things like Social Security. We all should know that. You make any comments other than singing its praises, and it's costing you votes. No two ways about it.
