2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

That's what indeterminate length terms will do for you.

I'd much prefer to see the presidency increased to six years with no repeat term allowed. That would take away the obsession of the opposition from destroying everything the sitting president proposed purely as a political maneuver.

I wouldn't mind that either.

As for the Parliamentary system, we Americans couldn't do that because we'd be asking for a no-confidence vote every five minutes. :D

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

There's always hope and change. Is that working out better?
Why is it that folks always use examples of another lousy president to stick up for another lousy president.

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

Didn't the Confederacy try that?

Confederate states of America constitution had interesting changes. Most obvious would be slave related. But changes made to the term and power of both branches were interesting.
Like the line item veto and 6 year term limit for the president. fiscal restraint on congress and riders on bill.

So if we had a revolution and won, how would you rewrite the constitution. (I would add balanced budget, term limits for congress (PAC etc..), shift power from various branches for better checks and balances, ban private-pseudo- Government enterprises like Federal Reserve Bank and fanie/freddie and other changes to reduce (money) corruption in our government)

http://www.filibustercartoons.com/CSA.htm
(20) Every law, or resolution having the force of law, shall relate to but one subject, and that shall be expressed in the title

The Confederates add this little clause at the end of Section 9. This is quite an interesting addition, as it demands that all laws only relate to "one subject." This would prevent what we see today, where endless riders attached to bills can allow Congress to pass all sorts of extraordinarily complicated laws that regulate about 50 different topics at once.

Minnesota........... 10.5
Iowa................ 10.3
Nebraska............ 10.2

Yup, and it's all Perry's fault. Illegal immigration, among other things, doesn't factor into those numbers.

I like how PioTard and Bob get to use immigrants as an excuse for certain States failings. It's funny.

I believe that a more radical wing of the Federalists also proposed it "back in the day".

After that mouthy obnoxious little perv Anthony Weiner resigned from congress, Letterman's "Top 10" was: questions you should ask yourself before putting pictures of your unit on line. And the number one question was: what could go wrong? Well, now we know, don't we?

A repub won Weiners seat, now thats funny. Time to get rid of that district per the census

Yeah, she's also anti-HPV vaccine. More women with cervical cancer is a cause we can all get behind!

How the hell did I miss this one from ol' Crazy Eyes yesterday:

"I will tell you that I had a mother last night come up to me here in Tampa, Fla., after the debate. She told me that her little daughter took that vaccine, that injection, and she suffered from mental retardation thereafter.

Apparently she's now seeking the coveted Jenny McCarthy endorsement?

Also, it's a weird demographic for any GOP candidate to seek out. Most anti-vaccination people tend to be of the upper middle class hippie variety. In other words, Democratic voters. They're the left's version of the anti-evolution idiots.

I suspect there's a correlation between attending Tea Party rallies and having kids that aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. "Ma'am, we've discovered the source of your son's disability. Through some terrible accident, he appears to have gotten some of your genes."

Michele's right and Jenny's wrong. And no, I'm not being inconsistent when I say that.

Most? There's just as many religious and individual "liberty" conservatives who like to get riled up that science is solving something. Faith healing fanatics who let their kids or themselves die because medicine is the devil for example. It would be strange for Bacchman to go after a voting block that doesn't at least line up with her religious views.

I know Bill Maher is anti-vaccine as a cure all but are there any dedicated left-wing groups who fit the bill?

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

Don't forget the "abstinence only" conservatives. Why would their kids need it? They *certainly* won't be having unprotected sex any time soon, right? Yeah, right. They don't want to imply *in any way* to their kids that it's okay to have sex. As far as they're concerned, getting an HPV vaccine for your daughter is tantamount to pimping her out on the street corner.

I think of "abstinence only" as hardcore old school Catholic. I wasn't aware that any Thumpers had a problem with condoms or even The Pill. They throw a fit when you teach their daughters about birth control because that's making them harlots, but Jesus only cares if you're married, not whether you're protected.
