2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

Sure. Here's the other question. Who cares? Ron Paul is irrelevant. He has a tiny base of rabid supporters who will show up and shell out money so he can win or poll well in a bunch of meaningless straw polls, and when the actual caucuses and primaries arrive, he'll get his 4% of the vote. He paid $2 million per pledged delegate last time around. Good for him.

Plus, a lot of what he says is just plain nuts. In answering a question about Iran's nuke, he launched into an exegesis about the CIA putting the Shah in power. That may or may not have been a good idea, but it's hardly relevant now.

Is this the election thread? And is he not running? Sides it's ammo the next time you might encounter a "libertarian" who thinks he's going to give them everything they ever wanted.

Lots of buzz, including both Rove and Maddow, that Palin will announce she's running within the next two weeks. Another unelectable candidate.

Diluting the money pool. How can someone with the lowest public popularity bounce back? News at 11.....

Probably one of only two GOP candidates I'd actually vote for (the other being Huntsman)...too bad he's polling behind Newt ***** Gingrich.

You mean a Republican who is actually a REPUBLICAN!?!?!? Someone who understands what small government really is and how being a conservative is supposed to be about tolerance not bigotry? Someone who is actually somewhat moderate?

I give it a week before Fox disavows this guy...

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

Ahhh don't feel too sorry for Johnson. He'll just go home and get stoned to the bejeezus after his campaign is over.

What I am amused about is this all out assault on Perry from his fellow righties. Not sure what all the score settling is about but it never helps when a significant portion of your own party is openly hostile to you (Al Gore's candidacy comes to mind in that regard).

Johnson's a libertarian western Republican; he doesn't compute with the southern and midwestern base. If he got any traction they'd trot out their proxies on Fox to destroy him (blah blah grass blah blah gays blah blah war), but they don't have to worry, he has no place on the current right.

Perry may or may not play well with the other children, but I think what we're mostly seeing is the realization that he's the front runner. Other candidates and their supporters know he is the real guy to beat -- hence the rush to beat him up a bit. If he's as thin-skinned as Dubya this could get pretty funny.

Sister Sarah has announced her intention to announce her intention to announce or something, so maybe the Worst Field of All Time actually can get worse.

This is a heartwarming story:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0811/61891.html

Nothing like having to resign because your idiot wife sent out a racist e-mail to black candidate who's known worldwide. It amazes me how bitter, frustrated and angry all conservatives in this country seem to be. Not just about politics but in their daily lives. Who gets this worked up over a state Senate race? Are they any optimistic conservatives, ala Reagan, left in this country?

Re: 2012 Elections Part I: All Politics is Yokel

In Perry's book Fed Up he argues that Social Security is Unconstitutional. I wonder how that's going to fly with the electorate.

Perry responded to an Iowa voter who asked how he would fix entitlement programs by saying, “Have you read my book, ‘Fed Up!’? Get a copy and read it.”

Global Warming is a contrived phony mess.
Entitlements are unconstitutional.
Death threats to the Fed Chair.

This man could be President.

Yeah, it's really surprising given the spew they've been fed for decades by talk radio.

OTOH, let's take a moment to feel their pain:

I hadn't been following this story. Sounds more like Texas politics than Maryland.

It would be interesting to see Roscoe get some opposition, though. His (and my) district as currently constituted is full frontal nutbar.
