2012 D1 BCS thread

Yeah, Minnesota really should have sent a message there, since they haven't won at Kinnick since, oh, the last time they played there. What a ****ing moron.

Last Minnesota win in Iowa City was in 1999, 25-21. In fact, since 1980, Minnesota has won just 3 times in Iowa City.

Feels great to get Floyd back. Passing game was still atrocious though. Vandenberg's footwork is horrible. The wideouts and James still arent fullly grasping the new system as blitz reads and route adjustments are continually missed.

Offensive line for Iowa is top 3 in B1G. They've gotta be Iowa's most complete unit. They were dominant again. Haven't given up a sack in the last four games.

In ten quarters of football, sophomore walk on Mark Weisman, who was a fullback four weeks ago, has 74 carries for 515 yards and 7 touchdowns. 7.0 YPC. a great story there.

Edit: 2002 was when Iowa smoked the Rodents to move to 8-0 in conference play and 11-1 overall. The fans stormed Kinnick Stadium North and completely embarrassed the Gophers by taking down the field goal posts. The acusations that they attempted to put it through the revolving doors is a way for Gopher fans to make themselves feel better. ;)

Wisconsin fans should hang their heads with the Cornhusker fans for those uniforms. Just terrible.

I'm against the whole pro combat recruiting thing.. It's cool for some recruits, whatever, but many of the Big Ten schools especially have solid traditional uniforms that shouldn't be messed with.

Absolutely. No chance in hell you see Alabama do that.

Let me get this straight, Iowa goes 11-1 and storms the field? Wow. That's the single most pathetic thing I've heard.

8-0 in Conference for the Big Ten title. Everyone thought it was Pasadena for Iowa. After four years with 14 total wins, half of them the season before.

Let's be completely honest. The only reason that the Iowans didn't try to get it through the revolving doors, is because it couldn't even fit into the concourse...

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

During the broadcast they said that the Gophers had won Floyd 2 years straight before this year, how did one of those not happen at Iowa? Don't they rotate every-other year?

Schedules got bumped around by Nebraska joining. Minnesota had two straight home games vs. Iowa.

To be fair, Minnesota's celebration for their last trip to the Rose Bowl was slightly more muted, what with President Kennedy announcing he was sending the first military advisors to South Vietnam that same day.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

When was the last time Iowa was in the Rose Bowl prior to storming the field in 2002?

Thanks. OK, so it's not like it's something even that senior class experienced. It's not like they stormed the field because they beat Minnesota. They stormed the field because they were going to the Rose Bowl--for the first time in 12 years. I don't have a problem with that.

Re: 2012 D1 BCS thread

Why is Ohio State being ranked in polls? Is it simply so their opponents can be properly calculated in the BCS standings?

Agreed. Plus it marked a resurgence to a program that had been declining.

And Iowa actually played USC in the Orange Bowl that year, I believe Oklahoma was in Rose against Washington State.. Why was that? OSU in national title so Iowa couldn't play in Pasadena? Makes no sense to me as Rose Bowl wasn't the national title game.

What opponents would it matter for? They didn't play anyone good in non-conference and the Big Ten is terrible. The BCS standings will be irrelevant to all of OSU's opponents this year. So the Buckeyes are ranked for no reason.
