2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Even with all the injuries last year Dickin just couldn't fit in. Wish him all the best with the Bison.

He was also injured for about the final 1/4 of the season as well (I don't think he played at all in March). I agree though, he never was able to fit in with the team/scheme. Also, Manitoba is the Bisons...unless they corrected their team name in the last few years.

Some interesting takes from the roster...

- 26 kids on the team, 3 goalies, 7 blueliners, 15 forwards, and 1 listed D/F
- Nobody is listed as "from" North Dakota, although I believe Gothberg was born in the state
- 6 kids from Minnesota, and the majority are from around the cities
- 13 kids from Canada, more than any North Dakota team in a long time
- 5 of those Canadians are from Alberta, more than any other province (1 from Saskatchewan, 2 from Ontario and BC, and 3 from Manitoba)
- 5 players come from non-traditional places, including 2 from California, 1 from Arizona, 1 from D.C. and 1 from Missouri
- 6 seniors, 5 juniors, 8 sophomores, 7 freshman - a pretty well rounded group there

Two years is not a long time, unless apparently you are in law school. :p

Good catch. Although, did Taylor Dickin come in halfway through the season? If so, then I could amend my statement to saying that 13 is the most Canadians we have started a season off with in a long time. Hopefully this year's team is as dominant as that squad was.

Yes he did.

MacWilliam will be the captain this year with Knight,Rowney, and Kristo to be alternates for the Sioux.

Re: 2011-2012 North Dakota Offseason Thread

Excellent choice for Mac to wear the C. Curious that they chose 3 alternates.

My best guess is that there was either a tie in voting (not sure exactly how they vote for captains), or they decided to award Kristo with an A for coming back for his senior season and being loyal to the program when he had numerous chances to bolt. For whatever reason, Kristo doesn't strike me as a leadership guy (while Knight and Rowney do). I could very well be 100% wrong on that though...just an outside observation.

I was definitely surprised by the Kristo pick. I thought maybe Gleason would of got an A before Danny. But with the reason you said why he has an A does make sense though. Do love that Mac is wearing the C. Reminds me of Greeny when he wore his.

I was surprised by Kristo too - his off-ice actions don't give you a great feeling about leadership abilities. But you got to admire the loyalty to the program, and he will probably be the team's leading scorer this year.

Just got my pre order in of 12 extra tickets for the Feb. 2 against Wisconsin. It's nice to know a living legend from the Sioux. Thanks Reg.

Not going to be the same without the Sioux head at center ice but we move on.
