2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

“@RomanStrib: coach Don Lucia called Marshall week-to-week on his radio show Mon. Said he will know more about his condition on Tues.”

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Do we know what it is? Or is it just a 'Upper', 'Lower' or 'Middle Body injury'?

He blocked a shot with his leg on Friday. I suspect that is it as he was limping badly after that. I suspect bad bruise though Don did say that he was evaluated today and Don will get the results tomorrow. I'd guess they're checking bruise versus break.

In honor of today's 32nd anniversary of the Miracle on Ice, some never seen before photos of the celebration at the old Mariucci Arena.

Thanks, but wouldn't it have been Williams at the time? :)

One more piece on the Miracle on Ice with a MN connection that I thought everyone would enjoy. A two part series on trainer Gary Smith. Very interesting reads. He has some great inside stories :)

Part I
Part II

My favorite story...

“There was this one time,” Smitty said, “When we were playing this lower rung Soviet B squad in a meaningless exhibition game. The Soviets had a shady-looking KGB man on their bench. He was there to make sure the players wouldn’t defect. The Russians thought so little of our American team that they let the KGB guy play a few shifts. The KGB guy got hit into the boards, his jersey rode up, and I saw a pistol in his pads!* Hockey is a tough sport, but our boys from Minnesota hadn’t seen anyone like that before.”

I heard North Dakota tried hard to recruit him after that incident.

Still no details on Marshall's injury?

And refresh my memory, when does Larson return?

Thanks.

Hoping all is Ok with Bjugstad! Can't afford to lose him.

By the way, is the Scooby poster an imposter or is he just drunk? This might being the glass all the way to 52%!

And where are all the people who a year ago were saying the Gophs should dump Lucia for Blais after the sweep? Not denying Blais is a great coach. Just saying Lucia is pretty darn good too. Lucia's team just swept a Blais team that hadn't been swept at home in like 3 years.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Solid weekend, it was refreshing to see the team buckle down and plain in the third (after giving up the shorty) and hang on for the win. The Gophers could not have played the last minute-forty any better....well short of getting an empty netter.

Hope the Gophers keep their foot on the gas and don't let up with a bottom feeder visiting next weekend.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

You just insulted the carp, bullhead and chub.

Difference between between a badger player/fan and a bullhead?
One is a whiskered, bottom-dwelling, scum-sucker, and the other is a fish.
