2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Sorry to interrupt the silly argument, but has anyone heard anything on Marshall? He disappeared after seemingly playing a couple of shifts last night. I was at the game so I have no clue if anything was mentioned on TV.

Heard he will be back for WI, most likely. Doubtful for UNO.

Good point. I watched on TV and they didn't seem to see it either. They noted his absence and mentioned taking some shots the night before, but didn't catch what happened last night.

I'm confused. Can't you just not read it and move on? To think everyone must fall into your same narrow, sour view on life is far more delusional than any spreadsheet. I assume you will go on the same rant when the what-if calculator gets posted. "It's not real! You can't really predict with perfect certainty what future events will happen! You are insane for even being interested in what might happen!"

Exactly what I was thinking too.

I didn't notice until the second period when I saw Alt paired with Schmidt for a shift. I then realized #10 hadn't been out there for some time and wasn't on the bench.

The Commie's viewpoint is as such: if you change one team's "what if" (MN beating VT) you have to change so many other "what ifs" that it makes the example pointless otherwise. I don't think he was ripping it as a whole, he was ripping changing just one game in the "what if scenario" that is trying to prove a point.

Pretty amazing story about former Gopher Evan Kaufmann.

I always liked Evan's tenacity. I am glad that he is flourishing professionally there. I can definitely understand the misgivings that many have about his choices. However, I think that he understands that terrible history far better than most.

Ok, maybe something a bit more realistic:

1.....Boston College...........32
2.....Ferris State.............31
3.....Minnesota-Duluth.........30
4.....Michigan.................29
5.....Massachusetts-Lowell.....28
6.....Denver...................27
7.....Union....................26
8.....Boston University........25
9.....Miami....................24
10.....Michigan State...........23
11.....Minnesota................22
12.....Maine....................21
13.....North Dakota.............20
14.....Cornell..................19
15.....Colorado College.........18
16.....Bemidji State............17
17.....Northern Michigan........16
18.....Air Force................15
19.....Ohio State...............13
20.....Lake Superior............12
21.....Nebraska-Omaha...........11
22.....St. Cloud State..........11

These are the results if we split with UNO and UW. We would likely be paired up with UW in the first round. We sweep them, beat BSU, and lose to Denver in the Final Five. This also assumes we get zero help from upsets in the regular season and playoffs.

I think your other one was more realistic :D

I felt so stupid:o. I was commenting to my brother on the goofy pairings only to later say "Ya know who I haven't noticed at all tonight? Marshall." Gee, you think that could be because he didn't play after the 1st period? LOL At any rate, I rip Marshall a lot, but I hope he is ok. He has been on the blueline all year and I like that consistency.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

As regards the Minn/Vermont game, and how if you change that, it makes Minnesota's PWR so much better... One point about that is how big of a difference one game can make. Partially that is because of this year - everything is very tightly compacted. It sure is true that if you change one game in any school's schedule, it makes a big difference. So, every game matters.

I would like to address one other point here as well - since it is the Minnesota - Vermont game being discussed. It is often said that losing to a weak team is terrible for a team's PWR. I disagree. Let me explain, using Minnesota and UMD as examples.

Take Minnesota's weekend versus UMD - it was a sweep. Minnesota versus Vermont - split. Now, exchange the results. What changes in the PWR? Well, Minnesota's RPI does not change at all. Minnesota's record versus TUCs changes for the worse. Minnesota's comparison's versus HE teams might get better because of common opponents, but their comparison versus UMD changes for sure.

So, it seems to me that, in general, if you have to lose, it is better to lose versus a weak team, and beat the strongest team you can find.

The Vermont game isn't a shock. Last year they were at most two more wins away from a berth into the NCAA's. The margin for error is slim.

yes, I saw him dinking around with the puck right in front of me in the first period, and he lost the puck giving BSU a strong possion. Never saw him later, but I wasn't looking.

I asked Roman on Twitter and he asked Paul Rovnak, but he didn't know. He said he's going to ask tDon the question this week. So, hopefully we learn more soon. Though, I'm sure we'll just get a vague "lower body injury" type of answer. I guess it could be worse. This could be the NHL playoffs where everything is a groin pull.
