2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

This team is horrible. We'll be lucky if they win any more games. Number 1 in the WCHA means nothing. They'll never make the playoffs. They look horrible every Friday night. They will probably end up 12th in the WCHA by the end. They take way too many penalties. The coaches can't coach. The season is over!!!

Your sarcasm engine is firing on all cylinders today. :D

Gophers win last night....you should have seen my double-take when I realized today isn't Sunday.

I was just trying to keep up with some of those on GPL. I hope tonight, that the Gophs win, but that they have a couple defensive errors or something. Because if they play like they did last night, we might not hear from Scooby for a week.

Good point.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

MN now essentially 7th overall. Maine and Denver flipped to MN tonight thanks to RPI gains. Those losses really hurt them.

The message stays the same: win as much or more than the teams around you in the pairwise, and everything will be fine. The Gophers are basically right back where they were heading to Denver.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

The Haula-Hansen-Warning line was fun to watch tonight. A tip of the cap to Wisconsin and Mankato for the job well done tonight also.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Agreed. They were all over the place and looked strong on the puck.

Also I really hope Boyd gets a goal soon, he works hard and has come really close but hasn't buried one yet.

Great sweep.

If you read the Bracketology thread, you'll see my predicted PWR rankings on selection day. They look something like:

1.....Boston College...........32
2.....Ferris State.............31
3.....Michigan.................29
4.....Minnesota................29
5.....Minnesota-Duluth.........29
6.....Massachusetts-Lowell.....27
7.....Denver...................26
8.....Union....................25
9.....Boston University........24
10.....Miami....................23
11.....Michigan State...........22
12.....Maine....................21
13.....North Dakota.............20
14.....Cornell..................19
15.....Northern Michigan........17
16.....Colorado College.........17

If we had beaten Vermont, here's what they would look like:

1.....Minnesota................31
2.....Boston College...........31
3.....Ferris State.............31
4.....Minnesota-Duluth.........29
5.....Michigan.................28
6.....Denver...................27
7.....Massachusetts-Lowell.....26
8.....Union....................25
9.....Miami....................24
10.....Boston University........23
11.....Michigan State...........22
12.....Maine....................21
13.....North Dakota.............20
14.....Cornell..................19
15.....Northern Michigan........17
16.....Colorado College.........17

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Let me guess: that prediction is based on MN going undefeated and winning the F5 with higher RPI teams winning all other games? :p

While I want to believe MN will in fact do that, I will cling to a more realistic scenario that says they drop at least 1-2 games in that stretch and finish somewhere around 7th overall.

It was Bemidji. They do the same thing on the road against UNO come talk to me.

So what? It wouldn't be fair to make any other assumptions and apply them to just the Gophers.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

So what? Sew buttons.

You posted a hyper-specific prediction that totally lacks meaning. Its central assumption (other than the one where MN wins out) is horribly flawed. If the higher RPI team wins 80% of the time, guess what, that means the other 20% of the time, it doesn't - which has a gigantic impact on the pairwise depending on which 20% is running contrary to your expectation. Just look at what happened to Denver and Maine last night after their upset losses for obvious examples of this.

Go ahead and continue to have fun jerking off to your spreadsheet program, but don't be surprised when the final order of finish defies your expectations four weeks out. There's simply too many variables at this stage to come up with anything remotely accurate. To pretend otherwise is the very definition of delusional thinking and/or insanity.

Spreadsheet envy. It's an ugly thing.

I'm confused. Can't you just not read it and move on? To think everyone must fall into your same narrow, sour view on life is far more delusional than any spreadsheet. I assume you will go on the same rant when the what-if calculator gets posted. "It's not real! You can't really predict with perfect certainty what future events will happen! You are insane for even being interested in what might happen!"
