2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

This year's team lost to Vermont *and* Northeastern, though (I think those losses cost MN something like 4-5 spots in the pairwise). :p

BC beat up on Providence for stats (like SH), beat NE by 1 twice (including one game in OT), needed OT against a very average UNH, lost twice to BU (whom the Gophers handled), lost twice to UMASS (including once by 4) and beat them only by 1 twice. But I realize UM has not shot so I'll leave it alone.

MN fans, as info, and just so you don't think BC fans are arrogant and cocky, the people on this and other threads stating that BC has this one in the bag are almost exclusively NOT BC fans. After last year and 07 vs MSU, most BC fans know this is anyone's game ;)

Yep. And while BC may have been in control, they were up only 1-0 on AF well into the 3rd and up just 2-0 on UMD before a fluke goal in the 3rd. Minny is obviously better than both AF and UMD. I don't know how you Gopher fans feel, but I wish BC was playing this game on Thursday rather than the longer layoff.

Yeah, the vast majority of teams BC has beat in their current 17 game winning streak have been under .500. I like the Gopher's chances against BC.

Chances? CHANCES? We don't need no stinkin' chances.

We only need ONE chance, and that will be enough. We face BC, we beat BC. Period. Don't believe that? Then get off my bandwagon!

Yes, because during Minnesota's 17 game winning streak, they only beat elite squads. Is that right?

Yes, but you have to understand BC's philosophy. Early in the year York purposely mixes it up and tries all different kinds of combinations. Milner wasn't even the starting goalie during a large portion of first semester. This way he can determine which combinations ultimately provide the best chemistry and production. Losing to BU twice in December hardly matters. I didn't see them lose to BU in February (and they would have beaten us if we had made the Hockey East final). BC has won seventeen in a row. I don't think you can really criticize their methodology...

Great point.

All kidding aside, this type of team is what BC matches up quite well historically under York. BC doesn't match up with the style that AFA played this weekend. The worst matchup BC had all year was UMass (2 losses and 2 very tight wins in the QFs that could have been losses). They just play a style that caused BC problems. Historically the Western teams shy away from this (I don't see a lot of mucking/trap/clutch and grab stuff in any western games for the most part that we see a decent amount of in Hockey East) and want to run and gun like BC does and BC has done very well against those teams. That is what made last year's debacle vs. CC so shocking (Ulfie's matador defense was not quite as shocking).

Anyway, I'm just glad to have BC in the Frozen Four. Tremendous honor going up against the Pride on Ice and the pride of the "state of hockey". Obviously a team from the State of Massachusetts has no chance against the "state of hockey". But I guess they're going to play the game anyway so we can find out how superior to Gophers are and how much they will win by. And I'm ok with that as long as no one gets hurt in this "controlled scrimmage"...

I used this exact same rational to help build some confidence for our game against BC. And we all know how that went...

Is the Charles flooding? ;)

We made every team we played elite by simply bestowing the honor on them to share the ice with us. A little extra bump to those teams we allowed into our home rink to skate on the M.

“@GoldenGopherHky: #Gophers sophomore class has 240 points (84g-156a) this year.”

“@GoldenGopherHky: Minnesota's sophomore class has more combined points (240) than 12 NCAA Division I teams #Gophers”

Future is bright!!

It is until sometime in mid April when the NHL comes a callin.

So, if the Gophers are lucky enough to get past BC. Akin to the parting of the Red Sea. They may face Union. Correct me if I'm wrong but the last ECAC team to win the title was Harvard in 1989.
