2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

I agree totally, and I will be at the game.
I might go to the chip if the Gophers win Thursday.

OOPS! I meant to say that I will clearly be staying home that weekend WHEN BC beats the Gophers. ;)

I hear that ESPN might not even bother showing this game as the outcome is guaranteed. They are just going to show the highlights of all the BC goals before the championship game on Saturday.

The posts in this thread remind me of Miami fans on this board back in 2010...

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

I would just like to say something that I want to point out after this past weekend and something I have been noticing over the past couple months. For all the crap that people give Helgeson, he has been, IMO, so solid defensively down the stretch run. I don't think he has gotten enough credit for his efforts in front of Patterson. Early in the year(not to mention over the first two years of his career) I cringed when I saw the Gophers opponent enter the zone with him on the back end. Especially at the regional I began to feel a slight calm when I saw him back there.

Holl catches a lot of heck too but if he could clean up the penalties(some of which I thought he was completely HOSED on during the regional), he has really been ok outside of a few brutal mistakes. I think he gets ripped on more than he deserves, personally.

As for the Frozen Four: BC rolls. I might not even bother watching on Thursday.

Agreed. I think Marshall for a frosh is close to breaking out.

Book it, whoever scores first will win.

Said something similar yesterday. Early intensity and finishing is the key. First goal doesn't seal the deal...but at that point, the window is closing.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

I respect it, but I see many posts as overconfidence in BC.

You completely missed the point (or didn't actually read my post). I am a BU fan...I was simply sharing information based on the fact that we play them at least 4 times each year. If you're not interested - fine - but it was not meant to convey "overconfidence" (which has no meaning because I do not root for BC). I think that we certainly have played them respectably over the years (and we beat them twice this year), but if you don't care to know how we did it - fine. It doesn't matter to me. It seems like perhaps YOU are the one who is overconfident.

Minnesota has no shot. Might as well save the money and not even show up. After all, we can't "out BC" this BC team.

Gophers are slower, less talented, and can't execute a game plan.

Game, set, match.

Game plan!? Are you kidding me...their game plan will to be to try not to get hurt too badly. Even that will be an uphill battle.

Forget it...you people aren't worth having a conversation with...see you next year.

What do you want us to say? We're not going to lay back and trap. That's not our style or the strength of our team. We push the envelope offensively and play a strong team defense. When our game is on, we can transition and forecheck as well as BC does. We are also adept at controlling the puck and limiting the opponents' shots on net, a BC strength as well.

But, according to you, WE have no shot unless we change our game. I disagree. We just need to protect the puck, play strong team defense, and control the paint.

I think you guys are taking the discussion too seriously anyway. We'll find out soon enough who can do what. Both teams are very good and have the capability of beating the other.

The numbers are very close. I've been saying for months that Minnesota had National Championship numbers for Goals Against per Game and Goals Per Game. I get no credit for that, however anything negative I've said is immediately logged in everyone's memory bank.

I think you've been fair for the most part.
