2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

und fans are all liars. Not only were you picked to finish the season ahead of MN, but you have an older team with much more experience.

I have been told a couple of thousand times that und does not rebuild, they reload. I guess all those sue fans have been lying all those years.

While preseason rankings mean nothing, I agree with you that North Dakota has the more experienced team (despite having only 3 seniors). It is pretty obvious that North Dakota does not rebuild...or at least not this season.

That being said, Minnesota fans need to keep their heads up. Did they play about as poor as possible at the end of the game last night? Yes. Are they still going to be a team that no one wants to play next weekend? Definitely. Minnesota has won the MacNaughton, and has an excellent chance to go to the Frozen Four, and perhaps win a National Championship. Most people didn't expect Minnesota to have quite this big of a turnaround this season, and while there have been some struggles for the Gophers, there have been far more high points. The talk about firing Lucia is a joke. The man has won 6 MacNaughtons, 3 Broadmoors, 3 Regionals, 2 National Titles...he's one of the best coaches in the history of the sport. Anyway, I guess my advice is to keep your heads up, and enjoy the NCAA Tournament. You have a team that is capable of stringing together 4 straight to win it all.

Great job by the Gophers last night. Proved they deserve the moniker of "Golden Chokers". Wow!

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

I can't believe the Gophers aren't dying for another crack at UND as soon as possible. If Dell is anything but unconscious in the first period last night, the result is completely different. The gophs have badly outplayed the Sioux most times they've played this year. They have more high level talent than the Sioux, they have wandered around in a funk of mediocrity for years, and they have yet another reason to want to bury the Sioux at a time when losing means you stay home. If all that can't fire a team up, you need to check for pulse. Same for the coach.

I don't know where having weird fans fits in, but that has to make you ******ed off too.

Nice to see SIM finally show up after being strangely absent so far this season while the Gophs took a 3-1 lead in the season series. I'm sure if the Gophs do get another crack at the Whioux and manage to play a full game and prevail, he'll disappear again until next season. Same with Skeets who managed to avoid the Gopher season thread until now.

It is going to be weird when they are both gone in a year.

I wouldn't mind seeing UND again.

Very classy post. Thanks.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

I'm *shocked* that SIM is being his typical dip**** self.

I say encourage idiots like him to blow smoke up their own ***es - it's that much funnier when their teams lose (and better UND teams than this year's have fallen short). All it takes for the season to end now is running into a hot goalie or having some bad puck luck, and that's if you're fortunate enough to have your team play well.

It's almost as if clowns like him don't remember past seasons at all. How hard is it to remember back one year? UMD looked like **** when they lost in the F5 last March, and then they wound up winning the title a couple weeks later. Absolutely no one saw that coming. Something similar could very well happen this season. BC is the odds-on favorite to win a title, but so was UND last year, and we all know what happened then (well, all of us except for SIM probably - since he seems to believe an F5 semifinal is the most important game ever played).

As far as seeing UND again is concerned, it's unlikely - anything resembling bracket integrity will keep them out of the St. Paul regional (Michigan is the most likely candidate to come here, since they are #2 overall; #1 BC will almost certainly stay east). UND will probably wind up in Green Bay. I believe that would mean the winner of the MN region wouldn't face the winner of the Green Bay region at all - unless both advance to the championship game. If MN is in fact in #2 Michigan's bracket, the winner would get the winner of #3 Union's bracket. UND's region champion would get the champion of BC's region (and we know full well what has happened in recent F4 matchups between those two).

Friday was a tough game for Minnesota, you could tell in the 3rd they were running out of gas from having played Thursday.

Dude, you are very bitter.

You clearly haven't run out of gas as it is still pouring out your mouth via your keyboard.

Do us all a favor - light a match and blow up.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

And Moy believes UND will end up in St. Paul; this outcome depends entirely on the committee assigning the #1 seeds in regional sites closest to home as opposed to a mix of that and bracket integrity. Having the #4 overall with the #8 and #9 overall in the same region is very screwy on the latter point (which is why I think Michigan will be sent west).

MN is 8 in PWR and BU is 9. We have a good chance to face them out of the gate?

CHN has nearly the same bracket as Moy* and one other from one of their blog writers:

A) *4. North Dakota vs. 14. Western Michigan
8. Minnesota vs. 9. Boston University

B) 4. North Dakota vs. 15. Michigan State
8. Minnesota vs. 10. Maine

It's $$$ vs. integrity and with the NC$$, $$$ is always a major concern.

My guessimate is "B", keep BU with BC in the east for $$$.

Yes. The only way this matchup doesn't happen is if the committee thinks BU would translate into better attendance out east and opts to keep them there and sends Maine out here instead - though I don't see that happening. The only real question mark with the St. Paul region is which #1 seed is assigned here: UND or Michigan.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Exactly. Go to work this week, play complete hockey in the NCAA's, and get a crack at them for retribution.

Very tough to swallow, but the season ain't over.

This team is toast.

No way they win next week.

No way. No how.

But hey, they had a nice season.

Nothing to hang their head over.

Last October nobody anticipated the McNaughton. They have a good foundation and next years team promises to be better provided they can lock the doors to the NHL.

Weird fans?

Weird like telling Native Americans how they should feel about a racist nickname?

Or weird like trying to retain a racist nickname to the detriment of an athletic department?

Or weird like a Nazi sympathizer as a primary benefactor?

Please explain.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

I hope they put the Whioux in St. Paul, I think the Gophers are the better team despite the 3rd period pants wetting and will win if they meet up again.
