2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

Not sure you can lose your job after winning the McNaughton. Sure the team failed in epic fashion but he's not losing his job. Another year like last year and I don't think he'd be coaching next year. The Seniors didn't step up and dominate. You can't say they hadn't been there before so they didn't know how to act. There are no excuses.

Despite the epic fail tonight, Lucia will undoubtedly coach the Gophers into the Big Ten Conference and beyond... Wheeeee...:) The seniors aren't the top goal scorers on this team, but I agree, the "lack of experience" excuse is lame. UND has 10 freshman and only 3 seniors on their squad, the Gophers have 7 freshman and 7 seniors (all 7 were at the FF in '09).

Agreed. His job is secure.

Losing to the Sioux is never acceptable!!!!!

True, but this is NOT the same UND team that the Gophers beat 6-2 in Jan. UND has much more corporate tenacity and grit than the Gophers right now and they are playing excellent hockey in the postseason (as usual). To score 6 unanswered goals against Patterson hasn't happened all season. Next week might be the "regional of death". We'll find out Sunday @ 11am on ESPNU.

Eff it. Put it behind you. Next Saturday is all that matters.

Exactly. Go to work this week, play complete hockey in the NCAA's, and get a crack at them for retribution.

Very tough to swallow, but the season ain't over.

IMHO - This move would be FAR from knee jerk - there were some fundamentally flawed non coaching moves tonight. First off the 2nd UND goal should of been reviewed (Non-Goal) - Should of called the time out either there to give the guy who pulls **** out of his *** as he goes time to change his min about reviewing the goal - Most certainly should of called the time out when UND tied the game - clearly needed to reorganize the **** show on ice.... This has been 4 years coming.... Mike G needs to take this team over.

lol. Parks planted his skate to stop, and Alt's stick jabbed the skate forward right as the puck hit it. Good goal. Unless you're blind, then I forgive you.

Ya. The unfortunate thing is that as much as every team laments about its players leaving early...nobody loses more players early than the gophs. I thought the Islanders might call someone up last night in the middle of the second.

We can count on the team for the playoffs...and that's it.

It was a good goal and should have stood, but it also should have been reviewed. Any time a puck goes in off a skate in the crease, they review it. Can't believe the Gopher coaches didn't raise a stink to have it reviewed and try to stop the bleeding.

Agree.
The review of the 3rd Minnesota goal - of which no real question existed either - served as a nice timeout to help North Dakota at that point.

Re: 2011-12 MN Gophers Season Thread Pt II: Still Full Of Pride!

I think Gophers fans probably all have the same thoughts:

1) **** they looked good for nearly two periods. After UND made it 3-1 the Gophers weathered the initial storm and even had more than a few chances to make it 4-1 before 2nd intermission.
2) They stopped skating in the 3rd. Period. We commented in chat if they keep moving their legs they will be fine. They didn't and we saw what happened.
3) Don should have called a timeout and I can't understand why he didn't. Maybe he thought they needed to figure it out on their own but that's what the coach is for.

They blew a chance at a 1 seed, yet if they're worth anything (and I believe they are) they can beat a 2 seed in the first round and I still like them matched up against UND in a regional final.

The team with higher-skilled hockey players lost last night. The better team won.

We are in a rebuilding year. The Gophers are in a national championship or bust year. It appears the Gophers have made their choice - bust.

Perhaps I should be kinder. The collapse could really be a wake-up call for this Gophers team. Or perhaps the first 35 minutes of the game were the absolute best they can play. Either way, the last 25 minutes was lack of effort and desire.

It should be interesting if the Sioux are the overall #4 seed after this weekend and the Gophers #8. I don't think there is any way the Sioux go to the West Regional in that scenario. Or that BC is forced to play in the West regional. Decisions, decisions.

und fans are all liars. Not only were you picked to finish the season ahead of MN, but you have an older team with much more experience.

I have been told a couple of thousand times that und does not rebuild, they reload. I guess all those sue fans have been lying all those years.

They seem to forget that.
