As a life-long fan, I am so happy to see the team finally return to prominence... The late 90's and most of the 2000's were hard times all around... There was just nothing exciting to see at the UC... Now we have a young team that plays with a ton of heart, and totally respects the history of this franchise... It's quite rewarding to see this team succeed...
At the same time, I have absolutely had it with the bandwagon... This city turned it's back on this team and left them to die.... In 2006 and 2007, the Hawks were outdrawn by the Chicago Wolves on many occasions... No one cared... People my age had totally forgotten about guys like Belfour, JR, Chelios and Amonte... And yet now they are out touting their Towes and Kane jerseys talking about how they have been "Lifelong" fans... I makes me absolutely sick...
I'll be honest, I will probably drop $150+ to attend one of the finals games at the UC... I have to wonder how many people in the stadium will actually come even close to caring as much as I do however... I mean, how many people there ever experienced the original "Madhouse on Madison"? How many of them would understand why I want to face Montreal just so I can give a big middle finger to Jocque Lamiar if we were able to hoist the cup in front of the Habs... The more I think about it, the more embarassed I am of this fanbase... I want this team to win so bad, but at the same time, a very small part of me almost wants them to fail, just so all the "wannabes" will go away...
