2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Chris Higgins, ex of Yale, to Florida for 1.6M/1 year deal.

I know he was a bust in New York and Calgary but I really think Higgins is due for another good year. Florida could look back on this deal later this year and smile knowing they got a 25 goal scorer for $1.6 million.

Which is actually 50K less than what the Rangers are paying Derek Boogaard for four seasons.:o

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

I thought I read somewhere that his cap hit was around $4 million. 5.4 is too much seeing that the B's only have about $4.5 million to work with.

Edmonton is saving themselves nearly $4 million for essentially the same player after they got Foster yesterday. Not bad if someone claims Souray.

I'm just waiting for Glen Sather to go Sandis Ozolinsh on Souray and forget about signing Staal.

His salary is $4 million the next two years, his cap hit is $5.4 for the next two years because it's the final two of a five year deal. Thank the Oilers for that.

As a "punishment" for front loading these contracts, players like that should have the actual salary paid for by the new team (ie: if the Bruins picked him up, he's just 4 Mil), and the old team gets stuck paying the difference (ie: Oilers for 1.4 Mil).

Good luck working that into the collective bargaining agreement. :D

As well as they have only 18 players signed...so less than 900K per opening according to Capgeek.

Mark Eaton from the Penguins to Long Island on a two year deal. No word on money yet.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

The news I was told about yesterday with the Kings, I'm guessing, came apart because the part that was going to happen was blown up because a certain signing didn't happen yet. The news that was relayed to me was about a trade the Kings were making to acquire a defenseman and they were going to have a huge presser. A huge presser wouldn't have made sense for who they were getting alone, but if they had signed this other player, it would've made complete sense.
Gretzky is coming out of retirement?!?!

 No more talk on Savard or Thomas?

Savard's no-trade clause got even more restricted on July 1 and with Turco and Nabokov still on the market in free agency, I doubt anyone is going to take Thomas on. The Bruins have stepped up their in-house PR to talk about how great of a guy Savard is to his teammates, despite stories contrary to that circling about. Looks like they're going to have to live with it.

Sign Ilya, trade for Matt Carle?

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Islanders continue their busy July 2nd by signing Zenon Konopka to a one-year deal. They'll have their man to fight with Boogaard now.

They've now signed Parenteau, Jurcina, Eaton, and Konopka today.

Parenteau comes over from the Rangers after lighting up the AHL for about three straight years in Hartford but never really being able to ever find his stride with the big club.

He'll become a 20-goal scorer now with the Isles.
