2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

The domino effect of free agency is taking hold in the world of enforcers:

Raitis Ivanans to Calgary to replace Eric Nystrom who went to Minnesota to replace Boogaard who went to New York to replace <strike>Donald Brashear who is too busy hugging things to do his job</strike> Jody Shelley who went to Philadelphia.

P.S. You think having a name like "Jody Shelley" has an impact on whether you become an enforcer in the NHL? I mean, it's like "A Boy Named Sue" except you have two girls' names instead of one.

Speculation is floating around that the Kings are going to have a big announcement today although not necessarily a signing. Hmm...

THEY'RE MOVING TO WINNIPEG!

I always loved this one.....Jack Kent Cooke had been told that there were more than three hundred thousand former Canadians living within a three-hour drive of Los Angeles, and remarked, "Now I know why they left Canada: They hate hockey!"

:D

The news I was told about yesterday with the Kings, I'm guessing, came apart because the part that was going to happen was blown up because a certain signing didn't happen yet. The news that was relayed to me was about a trade the Kings were making to acquire a defenseman and they were going to have a huge presser. A huge presser wouldn't have made sense for who they were getting alone, but if they had signed this other player, it would've made complete sense.

Pronger?

I assume the signing is Kovalchuk since they seem to be the only team really still in the hunt.

There was an article in the LA Times this morning about Kovalchuk wanting 10M a year for 10 years. Good luck with that.

I presumed that signing to be the part that gummed things up. Whatever the trade was (at least what LA was sending back, what they were getting would've helped out) was supposedly "imminent" and then the brakes got thrown on.

He's STILL asking for what he wanted from ATL? I figured on the open market he'd start his asking price just a little lower than that.

Speaking of ATL, Rick Dudley was quoted as saying:

Q: ... If you can re-sign all of the free agents that you want to keep do you think this team can make the playoffs next season with[out] any major roster changes?

Dudley: I fully expect it. With this team and the point it is at, making the playoffs is the immediate goal. That's not the ultimate goal goal- it's the immediate goal. I think this team is capable of doing a lot more than a lot of people think it can.
So much for resigning all the FA's he wanted to keep and not making many roster changes.
