2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

If he is bought out the cap hit is something like half of the cap hit spread out over twice the years remaining. If he retires I think there is zero cap hit.

2/3 of the remaining value, spread out over twice the length of term remaining, if the buyout occurs for a player 26 or older (1/3 if he's less than 26).

I'm still guessing that they'll rewrite the contract, but it'll be basically the same results.

Maybe it's super-genius and they did this on purpose, to prevent teams from doing that to any current (or possible) Devil in the future. I may be on something, or onto something.

Here is the original contract, courtesy of Down Goes Brown. :D

Clarke MacArthur was awarded $2.4 million in arbitration after a season where he scored 16 goals, 19 assists and was a -16. He made $1.4 million last year.

How... Did that constitute getting a raise? The Thrashers walked away from the award and MacArthur is a free agent.

The NHL is devoid of logic, therefore I'm left grasping at straws to figure it out. All I know is that the Capitals might want to get Tomas Fleischmann re-signed before his case is heard. He actually had a good season last year (23-28-51) and will certainly make more than $700K.

He's got the same agent MLB's Corey Hart does?

That is how arbitration works...look at baseball if you dont believe me. Arbitrators dont actually look at the numbers, they look at similar players and their deals and award accordingly. I have never heard of the club winning an arbitration hearing.

Clarke MacArthur and Tomas Fleischmann are nothing alike.

Isn't the NHL arbitration hearing decision basically a split right down the middle of the team's offer and the player's request? Or at least that's what it's seemed like in the couple I've seen.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Wasn't Corey Hart an All-star game starter and leading the league in home runs? This doesn't seem like a great comparison. :p

Did you see his performance last season? And how much he was awarded this winter in arbitration? :p

No, I don't pay attention to the Brewers very much, the only reason I noticed him this year was because he's having a pretty **** good season.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

They are to the "neutral" arbiter ;) (most of whom probably never watched a hockey game in their life)

It doesn't take a genius to look at stats and say, "Oh, this one guy had 20 more points than the other, he must be a lot better at hockey."

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Wait...you're saying the Thrashers did something right? ;)

They're saving cap space to get to the salary floor for when they trade Ondrej Pavelec and Ron Hainsey to the Blackhawks for Brian Campbell and Cristobal Huet...

Eklund putting the Rangers fan base on suicide watch after floating out the rumor that Gaborik could be traded.

Reported rumored trade is:

Justin Williams and some minor leaguer for Gaborik, clearing up space so the Rangers can go after Kovalchuk.

People that put stock in anything he says deserve to jump off a bridge.
