2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Rangers won in '94, so just 4 more years of suffering, and you'll have your wish. ;)

Whenever I hear about a team offering a contract that long, one thought goes through my head: "I hope he signs and gets hurt right away." I don't wish the player any specific harm; I hope the team ends up paying a guy that long for barely playing. Essentially, I hope the Devils get RickyDP'd.

Well tCBG, outside of UNH hockey, we finally agree upson something! :D ;) Same sentiments here.

PS Nice zinger on the Rangers.

Joe Haggerty - who's hockey knowledge is questionable but has pretty good connections - is reporting via Twitter that Boston may waive Marc Savard if he won't waive his NTC.

Breathtakingly stupid wouldn't begin to describe an action such as that. I'm already a millimeter away from the "FIRE CHIA" camp, that would put me firmly there.

Fluto Shinzawa suggested that could be a route the Bruins take if things get too difficult for the Bruins. I doubt things would ever come to that.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Fluto is about the only decent hockey reporter left in Boston.

Anyway, if they absolutely had to waive someone, why that someone would be Marc Savard - an 80-90ish point guy who's cap hit is $4 million and who's 7 year contract was just signed - instead of Tim Thomas or Michael Ryder, is beyond me.

God I hate the Bruins.

Well, Fluto also suggested that sending Ryder to the minors would help them from a cap relief standpoint but that if they did that, he'd be there to stay so as to not stick the Bruins with a $2 million hole on the cap they can't do anything with since if Ryder was claimed on re-entry waivers the B's pay half.

It's interesting they're having Joe Colborne learn to play on the wing because of all the depth up the middle. Seems foolish to do that with a big kid who works well in the pivot but if you want to get him to play you do what you have to do. What a dumb organization.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Seriously, why wouldn't they waive Thomas? Is there any reason, other than simply liking him?

He's got a no-movement clause, not just a no-trade clause in effect until July 1, 2012. They can't waive him/send him to the minors without his permission as well as not trading him unless he's cool with it. Ultimate player trump card.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

The Thrashers continue their plan of "Playoffs through Osmosis" and announce former Flyers assistant coach Mike Stothers as their other assistant coach, per the Blueland Blogger.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Every move made by Chiarelli gives more and more evidence to the idea that he simply doesn't have any kind of plan, be it long or short term.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

I'm just glad the Bruins have been in the playoffs for three years in a row...that alone elevates them ahead of a lot of NHL franchises these days.

Was that something Chiarelli gave him on purpose, or was that one of the results of the age clause in the CBA that Chiarelli misunderstood?

Wow, isn't that pretty much what Chiarelli said after the 2nd round exit this year? "Yeah, we blew a 3-0 lead in game 7 and in the series, but at least we were here. Suck it, Buffalo!"

Y'know, I'd suffer them missing the playoffs for a year or two if I thought that the team was actually building towards something. I thought that they might be a couple of years ago, but at this point, it looks like Chiarelli's plans went off-course, and he has no idea how to adjust.

That, and you have to think of all those kids at the Tim Thomas "We Only Feed the Orphans When Tim Thomas Plays in the Majors" Orphanage in Quincy.

Woooo! Top 17, baby!

I think one of Chiarelli's positives for the past couple of years was also that the B's are one of 5 teams to make the conference semi-finals in each of the past two years. That's...impressive?

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Yeah, unfortunately one of them ended in rather brutal and ignominious defeat.

But other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the theater?
