2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Oh, I'm glad he's coming back...just not with Montreal. I hope he signs with some team in the East so that see him multiple times a year. Buffalo could use a, um, "defensemen"...

Please god no. Leopold was a step in the right direction, don't ruin it for us.

Brett "Turnover" Lebda agrees to a 2-year deal with Toronto, worth $1.45 mil/year. The Habs should be quaking in their boots. ;) :D

With Lilja also rumored to be on the way out, Wings fans will now need a new scapegoat. :p

First Van Ryn, then Finger, now Lebda.

Not exactly invoking memories of Tim Horton, Allan Stanley and Bobby Baun!

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

The guy is basically radioactive at this point NHL-wise. If the Caps can bury his money again they'll be happy as I doubt anyone wants him.

And thus the drawback of signing a huge contract for a player: if you're not worth it, it will bury you. Of course, he's still collecting, so I'm sure that's some consolation.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

They waived him to see if someone who desperately needed a wildly under performing and selfish #2 center would take him.
I'm not sure where you get "selfish". Nylander has always been a pass-first player; during his time with the Rangers he was sometimes even criticized for not being selfish enough.

Now, old and underperforming? Sure. Nobody would take him for even half that cap hit at this point in his career; guy's going to be 38 in October.
Sure, that'd make sense if Kovalchuk was as good as Ovechkin and Malkin.

The dismantling of the Blackhawks continues. The San Jose Sharks have given Niklas Hjalmarsson an offer sheet for four-years, 3.5 mil a year.

Rangers re-sign Girardi for 4 years, $13.5 million....

Puke.:o

If we were going to overpay for someone I was hoping it'd be Staal over Girardi.

Too many years and too much money. F you Sather.

1st and a 3rd rounder I believe if the Hawks fail to match. And really, not sure how they can. I'm glad Chicago is having to pay consequences for their idiotic cap management.

I don't think they can meet that either. One week ago was probably the easiest time to get Niemi and Hjalmarsson signed with hometown discounts. Now? They'll be lucky to keep one of them.

I'm almost thinking they let Niemi walk too, and see if they can strike lightning twice with Toivonen. What's the worst that happens, call up Huet? :D

They won their cup, do you think they care about cap problems now?
