2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Rangers re-sign Girardi for 4 years, $13.5 million....

Puke.:o

If we were going to overpay for someone I was hoping it'd be Staal over Girardi.

Too many years and too much money. F you Sather.
So what are the odds the Rangers find someone to take Drury's bloated contract? Sather can't be the ONLY GM who buys into the "HE'S A WINNER! ZOMG LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES!" crap, can he? (I'd ask about Redden too but I know there's no way anyone absorbs that.)

The strong rumor is Redden will be dumped to the minors.

The dismantling of the Blackhawks continues. The San Jose Sharks have given Niklas Hjalmarsson an offer sheet for four-years, 3.5 mil a year.
Dear Doug Wilson,

Way to stick it to us. More players out the door or let a young talent go. F u and your California free living/free signing lifestyle.

Regards,
Stan Bowman (and my Daddy!)

Dear Mr. Wilson,

Thank you!

Warm regards,
Niklas Hjalmarsson

Rangers have traded Aaron Voros and a minor leaguer to the Ducks for Steve Eminger.

I like this deal a lot. Eminger is a solid defensive d-man that should be able to help the Rangers out a bit. Much more than Voros ever could at forward now that we have Prust and Boogaard.

Good deal.

Hopefully this continues to mean the end of Wade Redden's Broadway Blueshirt career. Just got to get Staal signed now.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

They won their cup, do you think they care about cap problems now?

Actually, some of them do. The ones who were actually hoping to see hockey grow and thrive again in Chicago rather than just be a one-hit wonder. Hopefully this past year will keep people coming over the next few until they're back to the level they were at before (if all the prospects they've been restocking develop well).

I'll trade 5 years of cap problems for a Stanley Cup

So would I, but once you already have your cake and no one can take it away, you're going to want to eat it, too.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

Rumor is that Hjalmarsson turned down a 3 year 9 million and a 5 year 13 million deal from Chicago around July 1. Given that, I'd expect them to match and drop Niemi if he wins his arbitration hearing. They'll probably call Dudley first and see if they can't figure out how Atlanta can take more leftovers.

Either way, it's a decent deal for the Sharks and puts my mind at ease that farking Wallin isn't the top 4 replacement for Blake that Wilson has in mind.

Watching Flashpoint on CBS -- shot in Maple Leaf Gardens. Bringing back memories of all the times I was in the place.

Great line when the SRU team interviews a former usher while trying to find the team owner's secret bunker.

He talks about Toronto and Pittsburgh playing in a playoff game. SRU team member Sam Braddock quips, "Don't tell me - they lost!"

Starting to hate the NHL. Details on the Devils' offer to Kovalchuk:

Impeccable sources have told The Post that the Devils have a contract offer on the table to Kovalchuk for 17 years at more than $100 million, and front-loaded so that Kovalchuk would collect $100 million over the first 10 years of the deal. Yet the winger, who recorded 27 points (10-27) as a Devils' rental while enjoying his experience in New Jersey, hasn't accepted it.

From Larry Brooks article.

Same article mentions the possibility of Kovalchuk doing a Lebron style show announcing his selection.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

There's no way the NHL is going to approve an obviously contrived contract that expires after Ilya turns 44, is there? Hossa pushed it at 42.

Secondly, Larry Brooks has never had impeccable sources. The guy's a tool.

They beat out the Finals when he was in it...people need to go out sideor get a friggin hobby.

Re: 2010 NHL Off-Season: Sather is a dink

I'd trade 20.
Rangers won in '94, so just 4 more years of suffering, and you'll have your wish. ;)

Whenever I hear about a team offering a contract that long, one thought goes through my head: "I hope he signs and gets hurt right away." I don't wish the player any specific harm; I hope the team ends up paying a guy that long for barely playing. Essentially, I hope the Devils get RickyDP'd.
